sayaka's despair would've been done a lot better if her unrequited feelings for kyosuke were what kickstarted it, not what she was destroying herself over to the very end. like yes stuff like that really hurts when you're young esp with what she sacrificed for him, but the story had already established that she's got bigger shit on her plate.
it should've been the set up for her truly realizing that as a magical girl she will be sacrificing and suffering all alone and those she's protecting will never know or care, and really mami should've been the one she was destroying herself over until her demise
