It’s clear from the outside of this package that Karkat spent a lot of time wrapping it. It’s rumpled in a few places, and the bow is a little crooked, but otherwise it’s almost obsessively perfect.

The package is pretty large. One big box that contains many things on the inside cushioned with light purple tissue paper. The first obvious thing upon opening the lid of the box is a note:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I DON’T KNOW IF I’VE TOLD YOU, BUT I’M NOT REALLY CREATIVE OR ANYTHING, SO DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING HANDMADE OR PARTICULARLY LIKE. AMAZINGLY SPECIAL AND PERSONALIZED? I’M JUST NOT TALENTED ENOUGH FOR THAT HAHA.

I KNOW YOU’VE HAD A ROUGH TIME OF IT, AND I KNOW THAT WE’VE KIND OF HAVE A ROUGH TIME OF IT. (WE BEING YOU, ME, AND DAVE - WHICH IS KIND OF WEIRD TO THINK ABOUT NOW BECAUSE THAT’S KIND OF WHAT OUR RELATIONSHIP WAS LIKE RIGHT OFF THE BAT BECAUSE OF DAVE? I DON’T KNOW, WHATEVER.) BUT I HOPE THIS SHIT MAKES STUFF EASIER AND GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO DO TO LIKE DISTRACT YOURSELF ONCE IN A WHILE.

The first obvious present is a claw care kit. Opaque nail polishes are lined up in all of the colors of the hemospectrum from burgundy to fuschia, along with a clear coat labeled as claw strengthening polish. Additionally, there are some nail and cuticle cream conditioners.

Next are the promised books: A big book on horrorterrors and another on lusii with an Alternian fashion magazine wedged between them - which is a little different from the human variety and involves a deal more brutality and intimidation, but is no doubt still interesting. There is a third book on psionics and a fourth composed of Alternian fairy-tales - which are all gory and brutal.

Another stack of books is bound together by a lace-trimmed, black satin sash. All of the books in this stack are lightly-used romance novels.

At the bottom of the box are two incredibly soft blankets, one silver and the other pale pink.

A medium-sized box arrives for Dave with a pretty bow tied around it. There are a few places where the wrapping is a little rumpled, but it’s clear that Karkat spent a lot of time trying to make it look perfect. 

Inside, on the very top, is a note. The handwriting is as sharp and loud as Karkat’s voice is, and nearly illegible, but again it is very clear he spent time trying to make it look nice enough.

I KNOW THAT I HAVEN’T BEEN THE GREATEST BOYFRIEND, BUT I LOVE YOU AND I’M REALLY GLAD THAT I GET TO DO THIS FOR YOU. 

I’M NOT VERY CREATIVE - I’M ACTUALLY SHIT AT MAKING THINGS. I CAN’T COOK, I CAN’T DRAW, I CAN’T WRITE, I CAN’T SING OR PLAY AN INSTRUMENT - I’M ACTUALLY PRETTY SHIT AT ANYTHING THAT I TRY TO DO, BUT I GUESS THAT I TRY IS WHAT MATTERS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT?

I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR DAY TOGETHER, I HOPE THAT YOU FIND IT FUN AND AREN’T COMPLETELY BORED OR UNIMPRESSED.

Below that note there is a box of chocolates. Most of them probably taste normal, but some others might be particularly spicy or tart or taste of an unfamiliar ingredient - these are Alternian chocolates.

Also included is a claw care kit! Incredibly opaque nail polishes are lined up in the entire hemospectrum from burgundy to fuschia - not, obviously, including Karkat’s own blood color. He’s not on the hemospectrum, remember? There is also a clear polish that is, apparently, a claw strengthening solution! There are clippers and files and a variety of nail and cuticle conditioners. Give yourself a manicure, Dave. Also, taped to the kit, is a holo top coat.

There is a small stack of books on horrorterrors and psionics, as well as a small book of Alternian fairy-tales. No doubt all of them are gorey and corrupt. Have fun with those nightmares, Dave.

In the bottom of the package is a stack of sweaters and shirts that smell heavily of Karkat. There’s no explanation, but you can assume that they belonged to him. A note taped to the bottom simply says: CHECK MY PORN BLOG.
