I don’t think i’ll ever be able to stop mourning what bisexual erasure has taken from the bisexual community.
wanna write a modern au with all my aot wlw ships and the whole plot is just being fukin gay. that's it. power of friendship and gayness. all girlhood sleepover vibes.
pieck consulting historia about comphet while she gets into a rl with hanji, hitch and annie being the angsty bi bitches, sasha and mika leaving every event early to go nap or fuck, wine nights crying to chappell, ymir being the granpa lesbian and predicting every problem solution and outcome of every relationship.
Today's personal rambles are about bi/pansexual erasure... I (mid 30s) was talking to someone last week when I mentioned my spouse by name, and this younger woman (18/19 years old) goes, "Oh my god you have a HUSBAND!?? I thought for sure you had a WIFE!?!?!"
And I was like, well, it's more complex than that and I'm not straight and that I dated different genders before I met my spouse.
And she was like, oh, so you're straight for your husband
And I was like, no, I'm bi/pan at all times including with my spouse
And I explain that while Spouse may be AMAB and have a male name, identities are complicated and people don't necessarily sit all the way to one end of the gender spectrum like you think they do, gender is non binary and so is sexuality.
BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN ALL OF THAT TO NOT HAVE MY SEXUALITY ERASED!!!
And like, yeah, you know, I know that a lot of us bi/pan folks with opposite sex presenting partners feel like we don't appear queer enough to be 'counted as queer', but I'd never had someone so blatantly shove me out from under the queer umbrella once they learned about my partner.
I know she's just young and naive and probably too chronically online to have met very many complex, nuanced, real adult humans.
But still, it stung, and I'm still thinking about it several days later.
No, I'm not "straight for my husband". Even if my spouse didn't have a nuanced relationship with gender, even if my spouse was just a cis/het man, I'd still be bi/pan.
Sigh. That bi-erasure sure do be erasing...
Members of the Bi+ community are not invisible and they are not erased.
Having the Bi+ Umbrella can help increase acceptance and understanding.
I hope that one day all negativity toward the Bi+ community will be gone and people will say…
I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me BLIND.
And the Bi+ community can say…
Yes I can make it now the pain is gone.
All of the bad feelings have disappeared.
Here is that RAINBOW I've been praying for…

Freddy Mercury “I’m bisexual”
Mary “You’re gay honey”
Freddy “You’re the love of my life”
The press: “Even after his death Freddy Mercury’s sexuality remained a mystery to the band”.
