Biphobes online: “Systemic biphobia doesn’t exist!” Biphobes in the real world: “Let me just grab some innocent magazines about bisexual news to take to court to prove that you’re bisexual because I know that I can use your bisexuality against you legally.”

Exploring queer women’s shared history, identity, and ownership of language
Minus the mention of “including trans women” and having to hold your nose at the use of the slur “queer” throughout, this is a very interesting article that discusses the shared history of lesbians and bisexual women, as well as the erasure of bisexual women from the words “lesbian,” “butch” and “femme.”
It’s a longer read, but it’s cited throughout and incredibly interesting.
(For anyone that wants to scoff and ignore it because it’s supportive towards bisexual women, the author, Millie Blossom-Ward, is a lesbian.)
2020
From the report:
Cycle 2 (October 2018 – September 2019)
From New Zealand’s 2020 report:
Adults who identify as bisexual (27%) and Māori (39%) are less likely to be fairly or completely confident in the criminal justice system than New Zealand adults overall (53%).
Adults who identify as bisexual are more likely to feel lonely than other adults:
People who do not identify as heterosexual or straight have low levels of trust in others when compared to heterosexual adults, especially those who identify as bisexual:
Bisexuals were higher victims of crime and feared being victims of crime more than other sexual orientations:
Adults who identify as bisexual (14%) are more likely to worry about being the victim of a crime all or most of the time than both heterosexual adults (8%) and adults who are gay or lesbian (4%). This result is consistent with a higher actual rate of victimisation amongst adults who identify as bisexual (45%) than heterosexual adults (30%). However, the victimisation rate for gay or lesbian adults (40%) is higher than for heterosexual adults (30%), despite this group showing relatively lower worry about crime.
Bisexuals were the group least confident in the New Zealand criminal justice system:
A study of students’ experiences and perceptions of sexual harassment, violence and domestic abuse in further education
From the National Union of Students 2019 report:
"forgets bi woc exist" is a huge one... its so bizarre hearing white biphobes talk about those "racist bi women" as a brown bi girl myself like why😭😭
It became really obvious that there was deliberate whitewashing of bisexuality when the studies that I shared mentioned that WOC in general were less likely to report having mental health difficulties and that was used as some kind of "proof" that bisexuals can't have "real" mental health difficulties for being bisexual.
According to this article that explores survey data, in 2018, 23% of the black women surveyed identified themselves as bisexual.
Pretending that WOC in general doesn't include bisexual WOC to attack bisexuals isn't just biphobic, it's also racist. I don't care if the biphobes that do this are also WOC, because it's still racism and intra-community racism is a problem. You don't get to pretend that you can't possibly be racist or abuse other WOC just because you're also a WOC, especially when "WOC" encompasses every group of women who aren't white.
(Sorry to have to point this blatantly obvious fact out, but an Asian woman can't use anti-black slurs without rightfully being called out as a disgusting racist. The "WOC" label doesn't magically protect you from that.)
There are definitely individual bisexuals who are racist, just as there are definitely individual bisexuals who are homophobic, but pretending that bisexuals as a group are just "white" to deny that we suffer systemic biphobia is the exact same energy as the misogynists who put "white" before the word "women" to be as misogynistic as possible.
Compared with Black gay men, Black bisexual men experience psychosocial health disparities, including depression, polydrug use, physical assault, and intimate partner violence (IPV). Black bisexual men are also less likely to disclose their sexuality, ...
