so reyna and annabeth are hardcore debaters, and they’ve got a two-three year long rivalry at this point and they take it ridiculously seriously

they’ll see each other at a competition, not even be competing against each other and constantly be trying to glare and intimidate the other

(which obviously never works because this is reyna and annabeth we’re talking about here)

their partners kind of bond over their absurd rivalry

and eventually,

they end up at a party hosted by one of their mutual friends

at first they keep up the rivalry

but eventually (possibly due to a lot of being cornered by friends) they do end up talking and they keep talking the whole night

they exchange numbers and they gradually become really close friends, hanging out together with their friends around and without the group

as time goes on though, they both realize than their feelings are a little more than platonic

but both also think that the other doesn’t feel the same way

cue the pining, slowburn, misunderstandings, miscommunications, etc, etc.

until finally tHE BIG GET TOGETHER

(cue everyone owing piper a considerable amount of money b/c she pinned down exactly when they’d end up getting together)
