Wings of Stone by Guy Schmickle Via Flickr: These uniquely winged hoodoos can be found in the Biste/De-Na-Zin wilderness (also commonly referred to as the Bisti Badlands) in New Mexico. I'm ashamed to say that I live within a two hour drive of this fantastic place and have only visited once. Even that visit ended up being an abbreviated one due to a major brain fart on my part. I got all the way to my planned trailhead only to find that I left my cooler with all my beverages (including all my water) at home! Doh! I had planned to camp out overnight, but not without water. Anyone who's been there knows that there is absolutely nothing in the way of supplies and the nearest town, Farmington is about 50 miles away. Having arrived in the late afternoon, I really didn't feel like making the 100 mile round trip to get water so I just hiked around for a few hours without and called it a day.
