Something that I have always found frustrating in the EU (which also happens with new canon) is that Padme doesn’t get much focus even though she is one of the main characters of the saga.
According to Pablo Hidalgo in the Essential Readers Companion the reason why Padme wasn’t feature in stories as the PT came out was because they didn’t want to spoil the fact that she was Luke and Leia’s mother. Leaving aside that this is pretty stupid because unless they were going to have Luke and Leia’s mother be a random character that Anakin meets it is obvious their mother is going to be an important character.
Either way this doesn’t excuse Padme’s lack of relevance after the PT. Basically she only gets side roles in the books and in TCW show Ahsoka basically steals her position as one of the third in the PT trio. You would think a character like Padme would have stories about her tenure a both Queen and Senator maybe even a side story during the Clone Wars but she basically has nothing.
This is further exemplify when in the Dark Nest Trilogy when Luke and Leia discover the identity of their mother it is treated as an after though that amounts to nothing and basically after the trilogy Padme is never mention by her family.
At least the new canon has mitigate this somewhat with the Padme trilogy of YA novels but I still feel she deserves more when she is literally one of the main characters of the Saga and one of the early architects of what would be the Rebellion.
