a lil’ old, but always gold. my last day in Tamaligu where ma’ ladiesss* surprised me with some fancy woven chinchini (cloth)! Had I known, I wouldn’t have worn my hokey STARS camp shirt that day (but still-- shout out to Students Taking Action, Reaching for Success for doing great work). I’m back in America after a lil’ romp through Barcelonaaah and Greece. My phone broke while I was living my best life (aka burning money like trash a la how we love to do it in Ghana), so if I never got back to you or if we met while I was in Europa, then that’s why (whoops... my whatsapp wasn’t backed up!). Still no American phone number** so hit me up if you want to hang :) Also last blog post pending soon!
*said in the Missy Elliot voice, plz. I didn’t think I’d get any gbye gift because 1) my community is poor AF, and 2) I purposefully prioritized my work with women, but the elders/men carry most of the money and probably didn’t like me all that much because of my focus on women’s work. My OG women’s group pooled their money together and bought me this. I was taken aback, super awestruck, and absolutely humbled at the gesture. I didn’t need a gift to feel like the last two years of my life meant something (re: positive change in my community), but the validation helps and is surely felt.
