I’m hunting for info resources on Mediterranean house geckos, if you have any to share or know anyone who could! Seeing your cute Pygmy gecks reminded me to ask haha
There’s not too many good resources out there about those little dudes! They’re extremely hardy gecks and have adapted to a wide range of habitats. Pretty much EVERYTHING in their native range eats them, so there’s safety in numbers- they seem to be much more comfortable living in captivity in groups. 2-3 females and a male would be a good grouping for one of the 36 inch tall exoterras. They like tall better than long, and they’re extremely good climbers. They’re insectivores, and in the wild they do like flying insects- but I imagine they’d be perfectly happy eating dubias, mealies, or really any other insect.
As for the habitat parameters, you might want to just try to mimic the places they’re from and the places they’ve established themselves. That’s what I like to do- when I was a kid, my dad set up my anoles for me based on “what’s Florida like” and honestly it’s a pretty good philosophy to try and match their evolutionary niche as best as you can. These little guys have been found comfortably living as far north as Ohio, so they’ll be pretty happy in a lot of climactic settings. If I was gonna keep some, I’d aim for about 60-70% humidity and a warm end around 75-85. They like lots of tight hiding spots, so a stack of cork flats would make them extremely happy. I would also have a nighttime bright spot, because one of their hunting strategies is to hang out in the glow of lights to catch bugs that are attracted to it. If you do that, you’ll be able to hear some of their social calls, which are cute.
