It already had been a long day – and a blue box materialising in the middle of the canteen just promised it would be an even longer day. He had only wanted to grab a quick snack, before getting back to his desk! And now, as the most senior of the people who had been left in the canteen, he was trying to explain the situation to the Doctor, while slowly leading him to his office. The Doctor. A face he had never met before, even if he somewhat remembered it from the file.

Basil Ashford was an intelligent man, but neither education nor practical sense could really prepare someone for travel through space and time. It wasn't uncommon for the gentleman to find himself feeling quite clueless when accompanying the Doctor to a far away future or to a distant planet. Helplessness, however, was a rarity. Basil hated to admit it, but as he stood there, staring out the observatory window, he couldn't say that he felt anything else.

"Surely there must be something we can do." The gentleman spoke softly, his tone almost pleading.

A callused hand rose to press against the cold glass of the window. Inside the room, beads of water trickled up towards the ceiling. Plumes of smoke billowed inwards as well, chasing an implosion to its source. The people, the poor scientists caught in an experiment that Basil could hardly conceptualize, ran backwards. Basil wondered how long this had been going on, how long these men had been living their lives in reverse. He wondered if they were conscious, if they knew what was happening or if everything seemed completely normal to them. Their reaction, or rather their lack thereof, to the duo's presence didn't lend credence to either theory. It was as frustrating as it was confusing.

"We can't just leave them like this. We have to do something, Doctor."

Fifteen year old Kate had run away after a terrible fight with her mum, an overstuffed backpack on the floor beside her. She had hoped to run into her dad, to talk to him before her mum could (before Fiona tainted what had happened), only he was too busy--either stuck in a meeting or halfway across the country, no one would give her a clear answer.

She tilted her head back and glared up at the Doctor.

"How? Mum hates me--hates who I am--and I can't go home."

"Don't tell me you were expecting someone else." It was more likely that her husband didn't want her to know about this incident. Local custom dictated that one's spouse could get the charges nullified. 'Look at it this way, dear, we'll be able to come back and visit."

Lips twitched at the corners. "I met your former bride to be. She was lovely." And utterly relieved not to drag out this farce.

"I--" she stared around the room, taking some moments before finally finding him, forcing herself to meet his gaze.

Missy fears losing control and having her autonomy taken from her. She always tries to be a minimum of ten steps ahead, but she's not without her blind spots, and its in those areas that she's often caught off guard--whether that be by the Doctor or someone else (such as Solaire, her future fiance).

Sitting behind the wheel, the woman angles towards her head towards the man leaning against the passenger side door. "Is it?" She questions coolly. She'd certainly remember those words in their wedding vows.

"It's my car." Technically, what's his is hers. Even if the penny hasn't dropped for him yet. Her lips lift at the corners. "You can back away now. I don't need a bodyguard." And her husband would hate it if the paint job were ruined.
