Fanscents fragrance review: Bitter Fruits
I took a break from these, because life stuff happened and I kept forgetting to apply the perfume early in the day enough to get the impressions over time that I like to record. Four left to go. Today, we have Bitter Fruits:
Inspired by Fenris. A fairly heavy, bittersweet-spicy unisex fragrance.
top: tart apple, dried rose petals, sweet merlot
mid: saffron, sweet incense, nutmeg, spicy carnation
base: ambergris, black oud, oakmoss, light sandalwood
First impressions: Yankee candle, much like Chanteuse. Fruity notes just disagree with my chemistry and hit me that way at the start; thankfully they also burn off quickly. Almost immediately the dark oud and oakmoss assert themselves, though, heavy and salty. There's also something here (perhaps a light musk not called out in the notes, Leah?) that reminds me of... warm clean hair. Like smelling your lover's scalp.
I went to lunch shortly after applying this, so I'm back now, about 3 hours later. Further impressions: about 30 minutes in, the saffron made itself known in a big way. Its pleasantly bitter, medicinal qualities really helped to offset the cloying nature of the fruit. Now, it has settled down into an unobtrusive, pleasantly sweet woody-spice. I can still catch a whiff of rose if I look for it, but it's mostly the base notes with a spicy edge at this point.
This one is not for me, but it's very pleasant. Much like Fenris, I can appreciate its charms from afar. ;)
Sensitive skin note: This felt kind of... warm for the first few minutes after I applied it. It has settled down, and I have decided not to wash it off, but if you're sensitive to fragrances this may be one to avoid. (I suspect the nutmeg may be the culprit, but freudianhedgehog will be able to say much better than I.)
