ok before i begin, let me say a couple of things
Close enough to competitive swimming someone could conceivably flip over
there's going to have to be a bit of suspension of disbelief in this AU but hear me out
in the south (or at least the southwest) it's very common for kids (mainly white ones unfortunately) to be in competitive swimming bc. Hot. (i was one of them!!!). bitty was one of those kids.
bitty had been swimming his whole life, in lakes, in rivers, in pools. he was good yada yada yada (i'm just trying to not word vomit) ANYWAYS bitty stops being able to make it to swim practice bc it became too demanding on his studies and his dad thought that since he wasn't going to be an olympian then he shouldn't be so dedicated to it
bitty's heartbroken etc etc but he does join a water polo team bc water polo seems a lot more casual and it took up a lot less of his time
EXCEPT this was a co-ed league so they had a LOT less things like spins and general mayhem, except he's REALLY fast (bc competitive swimming) but he's very afraid of being guarded and just like. ppl crowding in his space (i was the same way with water polo lol) so he just. goes back. and back. and back.
cue bitty trying out for the samwell water polo team and yay cool shit jack helps with his physicality issues
i was excited abt this AU bc i wanted to put SMH in the context of a pool locker room which is. a terrifying place. oh also they have a sauna and shitty spends half his time in there bare-ass naked
also making tub juice with Puddle water (every pool locker room has The Puddle) idk man i'm not good with serious AUs i just want vibes
