I really want more doll friends/moots, but at the same time, I’m glad I’m a nobody in the hobby.

I would love to be friends with all of the dolly people who feel like their current doll friends don't care about their characters. Everyone who says "when I bring up my dolls/characters, my 'friends' talk about themselves" or even people who don't have any friends at all. Why? I hate talking about myself! I'd love to be a listener to those who feel unlistened to. And I also feel inspired by other's OCs, as well! Y'all are so creative, I want to hear everything!!!

You can't even be neutral in the recast debate without antis screaming at you. It's not enough to only purchase legit dolls in their eyes, you have to think and act exactly like them too. Sorry but I'm not going to be some mindless follower just because they think their side is more popular. And I'm not going to be bullied into treating people poorly over a doll.
I'm online just to post photos of my dolls. I made a blog for them mainly to have a place online I can talk about them and post photos. It's nice to have people to talk to in the hobby but I like that I just have a few mutuals, makes everything manageable. I don't get why people would want more than a hundred followers or mutuals, 100 people seems a lot to me already and I don't think I'd like that many people having eyes on my dolls considering people are nosy by nature.
I get it if you're an artist trying to get more customers, but a regular collector...why would you even want more than 20k followers? That's 20k people with eyes on you thinking they have the right to insert themselves in your life. If you're a people-pleaser, trying to get validation from a thousand people-that's gonna be exhausting. I'm happy in my own little corner of the bjd world, doesn't even matter if artists or the "popular" accounts don't notice me because I don't want the attention. I just want to post my dolls and talk about them and I don't really care if I'm talking to the void. I'm happy with my collection and my small circle of hobby friends.

I dont know if there is a way to say this without coming off as a stereotypical Volks elitist. i def think Volks is in a league of their own, but Im not a elitist
here's my little story ig
I have this friend, she's a more casual doll collector than me.it never was about the company or maker for her afaik, she'd just see a doll that she liked, and if she could afford it, she gets it. she is legit only, so thats good
and like a week ago were talking, and she gets a package in the middle of our video call. she got a Volks doll secondhand. I recognize it immediately, and ask abt why she wanted this specific sculpt, how long she was looking for it, basic questions i think?
and she just goes - oh. i didn't go for a specific sculpt, I just thought it was cute and in budget so i got it !
HUH
and shit, yeah. Turns out she got it for a crazy low price, is legit for sure ---- and I'm just lost for words rn. Because shes treating it as just another cute doll that she was able to buy. when its so much more. Like - I tried explaining it to her - that this isnt in her usual price range, but she brushed me off and the convo fizzled after that
how do i offer to buy it off her without coming off as a total psycho? Idk if would fit my collection, but knowing her she'll probably try paint it herself and will make clothes instead of buy good ones. I just think that the doll would be better at a collector that appreciates it.

It’s been long enough now, I can share this story:
My cousin L and I met our friend R through the hobby. R invited us to join her local doll group, which was how we met a bunch of our wonderful friends.
Now… L, I love her dearly, but she’s always been spoiled and entitled. L started to become obsessed with a guy in our group, J. Like, unhealthy and creepy obsessed. Well, imagine the amount of shit she lost when J and R started dating!!
Despite myself and everyone else telling her to back off, L tried hard to insert herself into the relationship and tried to break them up. It was beyond humiliating to watch - especially since L was in her 30’s at the time and the rest of us in our 20’s.
Things got really bad when L began showing up unannounced and uninvited to J’s apartment and would get mad when R was there too, especially if R was the one who answered the door. L even threatened R several times (in front of J and everyone else) that she needed to break up with J so that she (L) could date him, or L would break all of R’s dolls. Obviously, this caused L to be forced to leave our group and L becoming upset and believing she was the victim.
Despite this, she still continued to stalk J. One day, it was R’s birthday, and our group had a surprise combined gift for her: J bought her a doll that was on her wish list, and the rest of us bought or made clothes for said doll. Of course, my idiot stalker cousin L had followed me and was watching the party (we had it at a park), and when J gifted R the new doll, L jumped out from wherever she had been hiding, slapped the doll out of R’s hands and broke it, all while screaming that R was a horrible person for stealing “her” boyfriend.
It was… Not fun explaining to my family later that evening why my cousin had been arrested that day. It’s been about 6 years since that incident, L still thinks she’s the victim in all of this. Her belief has only increased 100x since in that 6 years, NO ONE in our group is friends with her anymore, the doll was eventually replaced, I was MOH in J and R’s wedding, and the two of them are expecting their first child that might be due around R’s birthday❤️
Thanks for reading!

When pride month arrives, lots of my doll friends ask me why I don't make a "pride month post", easy, I'm not gay, I'm not a part of the community. Now don't get me wrong I support the gays do with your life what you want. But I don't have to post anything if I don't feel like it. And that's ok.
