I don’t know, I think I’m ok with the BJD community coming across as hostile to people who deliberately choose to do and support a truly immoral thing (recasting), if for no other reason than that it makes it a little less likely to encounter people who would do other truly immoral things like scamming on sales, palming something from a booth, unfair chargebacks, things like that. We have enough trouble with those issues already, we shouldn’t be welcoming people who openly admit they don’t have good morals.
And like, I’m gay so I 100% understand how that kind of thinking could be warped to justify hurting people who you just don’t like by saying what they’re doing is immoral when it’s not, but I don’t know how anyone can convince themselves that literal counterfeiting to steal away the livelihood of an artist is not objectively a bad moral decision. This isn’t about some archaic tradition that hurts innocent people, this is about whether you choose to harm others to satisfy your own greed or not. That’s not a bad bar to entry on a small niche luxury hobby community. “You elitist jerks are mean to us because we have cheap copies of something rare and precious that you love!” We know, scumbag, that’s the point. Get out.
