Work in Progress: Mixed Media Altered Jewelry Boxes
When I started this project, I did not think this was going to be a series. Now, all I want to do is make more and more and more until I have 100. I even said to myself, and out loud to my friend Barbara, that I was going to make at least one a week and at the end of the year I would have 52. Can you imagine that? Fifty plus two plus omg that’s a lot of art!
I start with an old, somewhat decent looking box. I prefer the deep ones, so I can decorate the sides and create some layering effects inside. I also decided to reinforce each box with extra paper and glue to make them super sturdy and somewhat waterproof. From there, I decide on a focal point, in this case, creepers and a central image.
I did not mean to make them all splatter-speckle-y but I was kind of in the groove and it just worked out that way. Once they were side by side, I realized how similar the colors and sizes were. Now, that I see the pieces as a whole, I can work towards a new goal.
