Uh oh.

This is likely something we all missed. It seems like the BJU PR department is on silent since the grand exodus.

In agreement with the Administration, the Board of Trustees voted by unanimous consent on Thursday, May 25, 2023, to not pursue participation in NCAA Division III at this time.

Bob Jones University remains, however, very excited to continue our intercollegiate competition in the NCCAA where we have been very successful. We have won 23 national championships in several sports, several coaches have been named regional or national coach of the year, we have had nearly 200 scholar-athletes and nearly one hundred athletes named All American, and for six straight years we have been recognized with the Presidential Award of Excellence.

We are grateful to Athletic Director, Dr. Neal Ring, and the Bruins staff as well as to the vice president for NCAA Division III and the membership committee for the time and energy they have invested in our application.

BJU's NCAA provisional status was expiring this month. And the Board was unanimous in this vote.

And Neal Ring is gone and doesn't even mention his BJU job. Something happened to perturb him.

Why pursue a future in a new athletic division if . . . well, if you're not going to exist in a few months?

BJU Volleyball player Brooke Beaver is the original reference from the BJUBruins. 

How about “Leave it to Beaver”? Or “Feed Beaver”?

They edited their original comment after alumni called the school.

Elijah Cupples (2) Guard

So taking a break from graphs for a bit. . . . The yearbook data has brought a lot of interesting details to light this year. 

For one is Freshman Elijah Troy Cupples, a Guard for the BJU Bruins.

Mr. Cupples is “not pictured” in the BJU Vintage 2020 which got WutBJU to looking. Many BJU Men’s Basketball players missed picture day, so it’s not that unusual really. 

But Mr. Cupples is quite comfortable in front of the camera. Since WutBJU is not that kind of archive, some readers have urged me not to display the pictures directly. So I won’t. You can use google image search, or see his listing with the NEXT Model Agency. 

Oh, it’s the same young man alright. Same height. Same face. 

In previous administrations, Mr. Cupples would have a job in the Administration Building, no sweat!

Michal Glenn Wilkie, BJU Employee since 2012, had started the 2018-19 school year at Bob Jones University. He’s listed in the 2018-19 Course Catalog (page 174):

He was set to continue coaching the competitive shooting team. 

But now? Poof! He’s gone. Look for yourself. His listing on the faculty pages is gone. His listing as coach is expunged too. 

Yes, something went wrong alright. What happened to this credentialed faculty member? His former co-workers report that he was a real stand-up guy. Mrs. Dr. Wilkie is still employed at BJU.

What happened?
