A belt buckle?
Their religion-centered, anti-Democrat, anti-science, anti-multicultural message mirrors the Christian nationalism seen at the U.S. Capitol
Christian textbooks used in thousands of schools around the country teach that President Barack Obama helped spur destructive Black Lives Matter protests, that the Democrats’ choice of 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton reflected their focus on identity politics, and that President Donald Trump is the “fighter” Republicans want, a HuffPost analysis has found.
The analysis, which focused on three popular textbooks from two major publishers of Christian educational materials ― Abeka and BJU Press ― looked at how the books teach the Trump era of politics. We found that all three are characterized by a skewed version of history and a sense that the country is experiencing an urgent moral decline that can only be fixed by conservative Christian policies. Language used in the books overlaps with the rhetoric of Christian nationalism, often with overtones of nativism, militarism and racism as well.
Christian homeschooling texts are based on the idea that white Protestants should oversee our world.
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and was homeschooled by my mother, the wife of a conservative Christian pastor. I didn’t think too much about my education until the 2016 election when I became increasingly alarmed by the enthusiastic support white evangelicals gave to Donald Trump. When Trump ascended into office, riding in on the phrase “Make America Great Again,” my memory was pricked. I had heard all this before.
In 2017, Steve Pettit republished his 1996 version of How to Pray 30 Minutes a Day through BJUPress as now How to Pray 15 Minutes a Day.
You can read it yourself. But jump over to Chapter 2 “Repent.” Notice how Pettit describes repentance.
Neglect of confession leads to broken fellowship with God, eventual chastisement, and the possibility of a ruined testimony or a loss of one’s life. If bills are not paid immediately, the interest may kill you! Don’t let your sin account go unconfessed. How do we confess sin?
What kind of sins do you confess? Wrong thoughts, selfish motives, neglected responsibilities, corrupt speech, and relationship conflicts. Have you ever been irritated with someone who neglected his responsibilities? Have you ever heard someone complain about you? Have you ever judged another person as being selfish? Relationships are rarely hurt by big things, but by little things that add up over time.
Confession means to say the same thing about your sin that God says about it. We are often too general with our confession. . . . Do you realize that when you confess your sin to God, you are not finished with repentance? . . . Paul had a habit of maintaining right relationships with men, even if the habit involved the humbling experience of making things right. . . . If a true biblical offense exists between believers, the conflict must be resolved.
Here’s the rule for clearing your conscience: Your confession should be only as broad as your transgression. If your sin is a private wicked thought, confess that thought to God only. . . . If you have committed a personal sin between you and another Christian, you need to go to that person and confess it. Maybe you reacted negatively, said the wrong thing, or neglected your responsibility.
Do you read anything about actual repentance there?
He ends the chapter with a big “whew!”
You need to confess your sins and clear your conscience. Then you can be free to serve the Lord.
So admit the sin to the small group with whom it involves if you must, and then you’re good.
That explains Bob Jones University’s poor response to the GRACE Report. They admitted it to a small group and moved on. They admitted no actual wrong doing. They changed no policy. They still employed the same perpetrators of harm. The predators are still welcome on campus. Nothing has changed. And even their faculty don’t believe the report of their sins in the first place.
BJU has done the same with their participation in the sin of white supremacy as well.
This is exactly what Pettit reviews in this short little handbook. This is Bob Jones University.
Nice to see that the people who choose Bob Jones University homeschool curriculum are such consistent but imprecise spellers.
Today more than ever kids need a good Christian found with a solid education to prepare them for their future. We do that with the BJU curriculum.
A graduate from a Bob Jones University orbit high school spews a near class E felony on a Facebook page.
I am shocked and appalled at the posts I keep reading from _______! Michelle Obama has NO right going to another country, and tell them how bad America is! She, and that thing y'all call a president, is a disgrace to America! They have NO patriotism and NO respect for the presidential office and the laws of our great land. Michelle Obama is NO victim! Hillary, Michelle, and "Mr." Obama all 3 need to be hung for TREASON! Michelle will stop at nothing to disgrace this nation and I'm not going to sit back and not say something! She puts herself out there and craves attention! Great example of this would be her distasteful dancing on the White House lawn. She is all show and loves the attention! If this land is as bad as the obamas make it out to be, ill personally pay for them to be placed on the front lines in the Middle East!
That’s the BJU-orbit education for you. Right there. Strange, strange fruit.
