Today I finished reading a BL web novel, Follow the Sheep into the Abyss. Omg, it was so much fun. The MC is a huge crybaby in the beginning, and his character growth is amazing. <3 There's symbolism with the sheep and the purity of his heart throughout the story, and there's darkness and corruption around him all the time, which I loved! And there's an ongoing comic, can't wait to see some scenes from it! :3

in the middle of s-class guide sweet as honey and it's making me laugh cuz no offense but mc is kinda stupid. i have a feeling there's a reason he's this stupid but it's like. kind of a lot lol. also i've never seen guideverse done WITH omegaverse, it's... interesting? i think i prefer just plain guideverse, stacking them feels like too much.

i heard there's a long wife-chasing arc, we'll see how this goes. i do love a chase.

honestly I think there three simple types of people in the Necromancer Survival fandom:

those who have read the novel and are mostly having the greatest and scariest time of their lives 🤗❤️

the manhwa readers probably part of a Lackey Appreciation cult, and still confused about the “we hear your thoughts” thing or have excused it to bad translation 😎👍🏼

Finally, those who have read both, who are living the full experience happily, but are maybe having a hard time seeing the shortcuts of the manhwa and have a different love for characters depending on the format 💃✨

Anyone got experience posting original fiction to Royal Road, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of our Own, or others?

So I've been posting my contemporary queer romance webnovel Fractured Heart to Patreon (with posts about it here, instagram, and bluesky) since January but have not gained any traction, so I'm going to start posting heavily sanitized (no sex scenes, no mention of drug use even marijuana, no admission of critical plot points that the characters went through in the past like SA and a childhood suicide attempt) versions of the story to those places and try to get people to sign up to the patreon if they want to read the "as intended" versions of the story.

But I have questions about each of these platforms for anyone that has experience posting to them might be able to answer, like:

I understand you can link, either in your bio or your author's notes, to a patreon on RR, Scribblehub and Wattpad, but Ao3 bans it as "commercializing". However I've read forum posts saying it's ok to link to something like social media, which can then link to your patreon. Has anyone had experience with this?

The rules about what is considered "sexual content" on these (and all websites on the entire internet, seems like) are super vague. Like, is "thinking about how hot so-and-so was had something hardening in his pants" would probably be considered "sexually explicit" on any of these sites, but what about "thinking about how hot so-and-so was made his pants feel awfully tight"? Is that euphemistic enough or is that, too, considered "sexually explicit"?

What about the mention of drug use, ie the MC goes home in a huff and "smokes a bowl then watches funny cat videos to help him calm down"? What if a character later on gets addicted to something like cocaine but goes to rehab for it?

What about discussions of past trauma, like one character getting abused by their birth father then later on getting trapped in a sexually abusive relationship with a partner (that is alluded to, not described in detail)? What about a character who shows the scars on his wrist left over from a childhood suicide attempt?

I'm really not trying to "game the system" and post inauthetically to these websites, but I also know how the internet is increasingly censorious and how kowtowing to payment processors as well as ridiculously misguided legislation like FOSTA-SESTA is only making the censorship worse, so I'm going to have to butcher my story to have even a shot at posting to any of these websites. So if anyone has experience posting to them that could provide guidance so I can MAYBE not get banned on them, I'd really appreciate it!

finally got to the end of I'm Not Your Fated Guide, But... and it was SO GOOD. one of the best examples of tight clean writing with a satisfying conclusion in a webnovel i've seen in AGES. i want to blast the unholy abomination that is the manhwa from existence because they absolutely ruined the subtle character building for cheap shock value and it is a crime because the novel is so good. oh my god.

highlights:

mc (pov character) is kind of stupid in a way that he plays off as being not academically gifted and just kind of a musclehead - but the way this is subverted when you get the slightest glimpse outside of his own perception of himself is incredible. i love him. on the other hand he DOES have flaws and some people just think he's a weirdo, which is so refreshing in a BL - yes, there are rivals* for the ml, but it's not literally every other man in existence. mc is not a perfect mary-sue everyman - he has a distinct personality, likes and dislikes, hobbies, all of it. he's super well-rounded, but you only get to see parts of that roundedness when he's not the one telling you about it.

the story handles trauma, suicidal ideation, depression, ptsd, extremely respectfully and accurately. minor spoiler but near the end mc finds out from a precognitive esper that he's fated to die relatively soon and his reaction - the casual acceptance, the way he immediately starts organizing his affairs to make things easier for his friends, the way he casually drops that he knows how hard it is because he had to handle his sister's unexpected death on his own as a pre-teen and he doesn't want anyone else to have to go through that? heartbreaking. i literally cried several times while getting through that chapter, it was so exactly representative of how i felt about my own death at the lowest point of my life. the things you can start to infer about the mc after that point... truly groundbreaking character work.

the ml is GREEN. listen. i love a red flag ml, you can drag them out of my cold dead hands, but gye joonmin? a verdant forest. is it wild to say that about someone who spends half the story kicking the shit out of the mc? (and getting beat up just as bad? the intricate rituals...) i really, really like him. he feels very consistent and cohesive in his character, the more you learn the more you have those '... oh' moments about why he acts the way he does. and i love how protective and pissed off mc gets on his behalf, because some of the shit he went through is... untenable! there's one chapter in the extras from his POV and if you pay close attention you can see the other side of some facts mc casually threw out during the main story, it's very poignant. (and sometimes funny. what do you MEAN he's been losing rock-paper-scissors on purpose every time. even before they liked each other?? gjm the man you are.)

THE ROMANCE!! it's done SO WELL. mc has one-sided feelings for the ml the *entire* time but it never comes off as pathetic or contrived. he genuinely does not have a selfish bone in his body - he wants ml to be happy no matter what, even if it's not with him. i love that him being in love doesn't stop him from also thinking ml is a stuck-up dickhead and physically fighting him every chance he gets. 'i love him so much... i'm also gonna break his nose.' perfect, no notes. their enemies-to-lovers story is PERFECTLY done. the development in the way ml starts to feel for him is also perfect and charming, when it happens matters so much; it really makes the ending twist feel interesting, instead of just a cheap way to force a romance with no chemistry.

sex and consent really matter: mc has to perform insertion guiding (a clinical way of saying sexual penetration) once with ml while he's unconscious and dying from psychic overload. if ml does not stabilize he'll go berserk and the gov will kill him to prevent him from blowing up half the country. even in this situation, where there are understandable reasons for him to do this and it is framed in every way as a necessary medical procedure, IT FUCKS MC UP. he feels HORRIBLE and guilty afterwards (even though he was the one getting penetrated). he views what he did as a violation of ml's autonomy and possibly the end of their relationship. he accepts that he needed to do it to save his life, but he fully expects that ml might never want to see him again or might even want to hurt him. i like that it doesn't just get brushed over or used as tittilation, mc is in pain and full of regret and sorrow the whole time. if you liked the way the climax of scum villain's self-saving system was handled, you'll like this.

i also like that it comes back later. when mc and ml finally end up in a relationship, they aren't able to consummate it for a long time because they have unresolved issues about the one unofficial time they did have sex. AND THEY DISCUSS IT. ml reassures mc that he wants it, and wants to do it right this time so mc isn't in pain, and as a result the subsequent scene(s)? literally transcendent. some of the best i've read in QUITE a while, and it's plentiful. it feels amazing to get the payoff after a slow burn and even more amazing because you can tell how much they love each other. and also mc is a slut and states multiple times that he started it and middled it and ended it so he can't be mad when he ends up sore. it's just. uuugghjh so refreshing to read. love this for him.

so basically it's like one of the best out there hands-down and everyone should read it. it's only 25 chapters and as of nov 2025, all of them have been released for free in English.
