i wnat anna to go out adventuring outside of icyridge one day and she wouldnt be some sort of badass in the traditional sense but shes moreso just extremely prepared for the wilderness than people would expect because shes been thinking about it so much for much of her life and especially so after desmonds passing. like yeah technically she most definitely wouldnt be able to fight off anything that attacks her but she has a million bear traps and a good slap and thats only if something even manages to find her or gets in arms reach so shes fine by herself. if shes accompanied by someone shes leaving their ass behind unless they can catch up because shes walking so fast. desmonds resourcefulness and silviers guts. idk

i think TJ would be a rambler but hes so used to either being told to shut up or that hes too noisy or people just not listening whenever he talks, which led to him doing it much less often. especially so because i think he also talks a little slow because his minds trying to catch up. and i think he very obviously wouldnt have this problem with player or suzie (they would quietly listen and she would have a back-and-forth, respectively).

but with quincy, specifically pre-arid mines, i think TJ likes annoying him but never rambles and has a hard time having genuine conversations in general because quincys always telling him to shut up and it peeves him (even though he knows he probably doesnt mean it but anxiety isnt always reasonable). and i think they would have a moment probably after arriving in doodleco academy when they have some private time where TJ starts rambling about something to quincy but stops himself and blurts out a "sorry". and quincy just kind of looks at him, makes a motion with his hand and gives him a nod. and TJ is a little dumbfounded but starts talking again

and you just know quincy is trying to suppress a smile too

while i do think it is funny to imagine that TJ and quincys relationship started off quite one sided in the way that TJ simply showed quincy basic kindness and that made quincy immediately fall in love with him because dude has never had anything nice happen to him in his life i also personally think it should stay a joke instead of being like. a genuine reading of their relationship or their characters as a whole. because in my opinion, that is not only not at all whats going on, but also that would just diminish so much of their character developments and what their unique bond means for the story

like YES TJ most likely (though not definitively) was not savvy enough to see through quincys facade. he probably didn't purposefully bear with quincys rancid attitude with the reasoning that he knows he's a good person at heart. but TJ did hang out with him willingly and consider him a friend unconditionally, and there is a sizeable gap between that and just general kindness.

since basically all but one of their positive interactions happened off screen we just dont have enough to work with right now to really know how TJ is like with quincy or how he feels about him, but if we were to infer from quincys icyridge dialogue he makes it pretty clear that TJ did more than just tolerate him. he liked quincy for who he is. he genuinely enjoyed his company, since quincy most definitely would've noticed if he didn't, considering he spent his whole life around people who only pretended to like him. and naturally, he would know that this person is different.

if TJ really did treat quincy just like he does anyone else, then that just implies that the "fate" aspect of their relationship is the only thing that really makes their relationship special, when that's really not the case. i fully think TJ loves quincy just as much as quincy loves him.

i realized that despite being a quincy x player enjoyer, ive put NO balls in that court at all, so here are some balls.

im specifically talking about the non-self insert, vessel of the blue strings, player is their own person believer, kind. IDGAFFFF about quincy selfshipping

first of all they are extremely similar in that they both come from a wealthy background, and also have daddy issues. in the post-story where quincys totally abandoned doodleco and probably had to leave the island, player would be literally the only person who could truly empathize with what hes feeling because they know what it feels like to have to start again from zero and trying to get used to a more modest living.

also i think ive talked about this on this blog before, but i hc that theyve met before as kids at some rich people party, but quincy doesnt remember player because theyre just a nobody and player doesnt remember quincy because they. canonically really dont care about politics

they both also are the ones with the WORST social skills ever compared to TJ and suzie. i actually feel like quincy would (surprisingly) be one of the people who match players level the most when it comes to social ineptitude, especially after quincys mellowed out post-icyridge and post-story. i think he relies a lot on his status to carry him through social situations, so when that safety net is stripped from him he has no idea how to talk to people, much like player having to rely on the blue strings to help them meet new people. player just wouldn't make friends otherwise.

umm. theyre both blue. they wouldnt be able to drive for shit. absolutely disastrous money management. loser x loser. quincy would be extremely chronically offline while player is extremely chronically online

with TJ or suzie i think quincy would always have an easy flow of conversation with them. hes used to bickering and his only gripe is usually that he wishes he could have some silence. while with player for the first time he wants their attention and itches to fill the silence because their total poker face makes him restless and i think thats cute

also important additional reason to ship them: TJ and suzie would be real fucking annoying about it and its really really funny to think about

like most other people i always operated under the belief that everyone in doodle gang are prooobably only childs.... but i was thinking about it today and i lowkey think TJ is one instance where him having siblings would add to his narrative..... like a middle child who doesn't have much expected of them or an eldest child whos supposed to be someone their siblings can look up to or a youngest child who hates being doted on and feels like he's falling behind compared to his older siblings

doodle world trying to have a pretty anti-capitalist message isnt a secret but lowkey now that i think about it theyre being so fucking blunt with it with how the ONLY competitors we have in this key hunt which literally targets poor people by promising a huge cash prize, are rich people, corrupt leaders, and those in positions of power. literally our first rival is the rich son of the corporation who started the fucking key hunt. and in every other timeline the corporation is the one who wins. our protagonist literally had to be given assistance from a fucking all-powerful being in order to stand a chance.

they trick you into thinking the competition is fair, that you actually have a chance at it. when in reality they never intended for you to win. it's just another way for big companies to exploit you and your financial struggles.

okay i keep thinking about the bridge scene. i'm motherfucking talking about that damn bridge scene again.

its so clear to me that TJ and quincys care for each other is mutual. while it may seem like quincy loves TJ so much more because hes the one doing all of the legwork during icyridge it's so implied during the entire arc that he means something to TJ too or else anyone could've been able to talk him down from his arrogance.

i mean. god. he literally says it here that the key hunt, carrying out what he believes to be his purpose, is the only reason why they can't be friends. he WISHES they could be friends but he thinks it can't be possible because feelings might get in the way of pursuing his goal and so he's afraid of getting attached. his sudden cruel treatment of others makes total sense if this is how his mind operates. it's why he tries to pretend he doesn't care, even though he clearly does.

this is such a loaded fucking scene.

in a way you could say TJ was testing quincy. try to piss him off or bum him out enough that he'll get sick of him and give up on him like he believes everyone else has. he expected anger, disgust. but he's forced to realize that every single thing quincy's done for him or said to him is genuine. that it wasn't for any self-serving reason, but because he cares. genuinely, truly cares. and it's too clearly the truth, so he accepts this now and drops the act entirely.

that "thanks" probably accounts for so many different things. thank you for listening to me. thank you for not leaving me behind. thank you for caring about me. thank you for not giving up on me. thank you for continuing to believe in me. thank you for being my friend.

that unconditional kindness, not leaving someone behind no matter how difficult they're being about it, was the same thing TJ had so naturally done for quincy. he's so adamant about saving him and getting him back because he's been through the same thing and knows it's all an act. he so strongly believes TJ has a good heart because he's seen it for himself firsthand, even if it's not as obvious to us as the player.

TJ is so used to believing that his life being meaningless is an undeniable fact. it is an unshakeable part of his logic. being cast aside and being left behind is something he fully expects and anticipates. and quincy's just told this man that he matters so much to him and is so special to him that he'll never leave his side no matter what he may say or do in the future. if he means this much to at least one person, his logic is essentially flawed.

all this is to say that their relationship is far from one sided. quincy is clearly eternally grateful to TJ for giving him a chance, and while he's not as obvious about it, and (probably) wouldn't turn into an interdimensional serial killer without him, it's clear that TJ is just as thankful to have quincy in his life.
