Anyway...
To my Black agnostics and atheists, do y'all have any good literature on leaving Christianity? I wanna give some info to my cousin to read.
Also Black witches, do y'all have any good book suggestions for beginning/entering pagan/wiccan practices or the like. I also wanna give that to her.
I only have books and suggestions about African religions and Hoodoo.
Thanks in advance.
God is love...
...and love don't love nobody.
If you don’t agree with/believe everything, would that not make you a judge of God and his word?
Would that not mean that you know better than the deity you worship? If so, why worship him at all?
If there is something in the bible you feel is “wrong," would that not mean that God—who is supposed to be all perfect—makes mistakes?
Bible was not written by God. It was writted by men.
Yes, the Bible was *written by man. What is your point? Your concept of god comes from this book that was written by man. If you are saying the bible may have wrong information in it due to it being written by man, one could then argue that the idea of god there may be/is flawed, as well.
Also, do you believe the bible was inspired by god?
Logic and the Never-ending Battle Against Ignorance
This blog is going to be "advanced atheism (lol)" as well as "atheism 101." There are many things that we will have to explain and reexplain, because unfortunately, people are at varying stages of ignorance--even those who are atheist or agnostic. So, if something here seems redundant, forgive us and allow us that. We know it gets tedious, but it's most necessary.
Short story: "Do I Deserve hell, Mom?"
She looked at her mother with tear-filled eyes, “Do I deserve to go to hell?" There was a long pause. She knew her mother wasn't going to answer.
“Look at me, mom!" Slowly, her mother met her daughter's pain-filled eyes. "Do you really believe that I deserve hell—to be tortured for eternity? I’ve tried, mom. I swear to YOUR god, I’ve tried. I’ve tried so hard to believe. I’ve tried so hard…"
Her voice trailed off, leaving the words suspended there, suspended in the silence. The tears started to fall from her almond-shaped eyes, slowly trailing down her smooth, brown cheeks. Both mother and daughter sat there for what felt like eternity. Her mother sat there, looking down at her hands, which were folded neatly on the table… But if you were to look closely, you’d see her mother’s hands were trembling, ever so slightly.
Silence screamed and echoed through the room, finally interrupted yet again by the daughter.
"Mom… You think I’m evil? You think I am choosing to die and go to hell? I try my best to be a good person. I AM a good person. Mom… If you were god, would you send me to hell? Would you even have created such a place?!"
More silence… The only sound was the ticking of the clock over the stove.
Frustrated at her mother's unresponsiveness, she stood up quickly, knocking her chair over.
"Maybe your god hardened my heart, the way he did the pharaoh’s. You remember that story? The pharaoh was ready to concede defeat, and this "god" hardened his heart and then punished him. Maybe your god did the same to me. Maybe my life is just a cruel joke, a bet... Like Job's. Remember THAT story? I don't need you or your god."
With that, the daughter turned and walked out of the door, leaving the mother sobbing silently, unsure of what to believe and whom to be loyal to; torn between her savior and her child.
The mother, knowing nothing else, began to pray.
