Bruh, white people kill me. Like, why are they asking Black-led movements how to join them? That is not only misguided, but they’re not understanding the assignment. In fact, they’re completely missing the damn point. This is not a call for proximity to justice. This is a call to build something that actually moves the needle towards it.
The Black Panther Party was not created as a broad, open political club like the NAACP. It was created specifically by Black folks and forged in response to police violence, racial terror, economic exclusion, and state abandonment of Black communities. Its programs fed children, treated the sick and elderly, and defended neighborhoods because no one else would. Its politics were inseparable from the lived Black experience. This was a movement for Black people to do and think for themselves. I don’t think white people have any more excuses to remain unorganized and unaccountable. Enough asking for permission from the very people already carrying the heaviest load.
When white folks ask to join Black organizations, even with their so-called “good intentions,” they often create the same dynamic that these movements exist to dismantle. Now, all of a sudden, white needs move to the center. White comfort becomes a consideration. White voices begin to crowd the room. To me, that’s not solidarity. That a is drift. That’s us going back to being guests in our own movement. Black-led movements do not exist to rehabilitate white consciousness. They exist to secure Black survival, dignity, and power. Respecting that boundary is not exclusion. It is recognition!!!🗣️🗣️
