When you realize your mom doesn't have treats for you
A wild, untamable beast
Had to leave the pony for the week. She was unimpressed with my goodbyes
April 1st, 2016 vs April 1st, 2017
One year ago today, 20 minutes before she was supposed to ship, I paid bail on a malnourished, scared little mare. I was told she was 15.2hh, 6 years old, stocky, and a good weight. She was not broke to ride, but she had a good calm mind and was ridden at the lot. I thought I had hit the jackpot. Instead I picked up a scrawny, barely 14hh, terrified horse. She had an abscess on her back foot, bit scars on her mouth, and fear in her eyes. My vet said she had most likely had a foal very recently, recently enough that the foal shouldn't have been weaned yet. It took months and months of rehabilitation, patience, and trust, but Luna grew into a beautiful, caring, mare. We have our ups and downs, and there are times when I come home from the barn crying my eyes out because I can't get her to do what I ask. Despite our issues, I love her more than anything in the world, and I don't regret a single second that I have spent with her. I'll never know Luna's real birthday, but I know that today is the day she became mine. So today I celebrate Luna's 7th "birthday" and a year of ownership. Happy birthday Luna, I can't wait to see what this year brings.
