"Boy and Car New York City" Stunned by this #blackboymagic created by Jerome Liebling was an American photographer, filmmaker, and teacher. Liebling left his studies at Brooklyn College in 1942 to serve in the armed forces in Europe and North Africa during World War II. "Inspired by the street life and youth culture of his native Brooklyn, Jamel Shabazz use his camera to capture the social conditions of the borrowed during the 1970s and 1980s. Jamel Shabazz recalled that this image was taken and Brownsville neighborhood plagued by poverty and gang violence after he "came upon this Young group of acrobats performing incredible feats on an old beat up mattress." The photograph, he explained " represents the hardships Patty inner-city youth face each day of their lives trying to overcome obstacles and is representative of lack of resources. Despite it all they still find a way to remain resilient and creative." After reading this description of the photograph my only response was "what do you expect." Earlier in the day I had a talk with my museum companion about "imagination" we spoke in great detail about what it takes to have imagination. When asked what feeds my imagination I replied with "Fantasy" because that is what makes up for feeds my imagination creativity that has its roots in a mystical or fantasy base that pulls from many of TV shows what movies with that was the lead that possessed extraordinary strength ability and prowess. Usually a man-made experiment or born some mystical force, characters are responsible for the source, and depth of my imaginative abilities. Retreating to a space of imagination also stems from the lack of resources that were not available to me as a child. My creative abilities were manifested at a young age, the energy I put forth in developing my imagination could only be channeled into using what I have. Due to my environmental, and socioeconomic circumstances. I didn't fail because I used what I had. That's what makes me unique amongst a generation of similar minded individuals. Melanin Sorbet is born from that set of circumstances to become something resilient,creative, permanent, and necessary. Cheers to my Melinated imaginations that continue to grow.
