YOUR QUEENS CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH BLACK ❤ Anslem and Starr we celebrate you!! How did you both meet? We met over the phone, working in the same industry. I think this was in 2005, I was doing PR and he was the editor-in-chief of a now defunct magazine called "The Ave." I was constantly pitching him and he stood out because he was pleasant to talk to. Eventually, we became MySpace friends (old school lol), and then we finally met in person at a mutual friend's birthday party. Can you share your greatest memory? Our honeymoon to Japan really stands out for me. It was such culture shock being pretty much the only black people there, and we got a kick out of people's reactions to us. It was also cool because we got to hang out with one of my cousins, who lives in Osaka, while there.That is probably one of the best trips we have taken to date. What is your advice on love? Work on it seven days a week. As human beings we change and evolve everyday so the person you're with changes as a result. Things won't always be rosy and "perfect," love is messy, love is difficult and love imperfect but in the end it's all worth it because love is life, happiness and partnership, too. What does Black love mean to you both ? It's everything. I was raised by a Black woman who was by herself after my parents divorced and I never wanted that for myself. LovingBlack love isn't saying that any other type of love isn't valid, it's just something that I've always desired for myself. And with so many stereotypes of successful men of color dating outside of their race or society in general making Black women feel undesired, I for one don't fall into either bucket. My wife is everything that I love about Black women and the cultural connections that we have and will pass on to our daughter are priceless to me.
