I return here once every six months or so for the sole reason of a photo dump. Here is Halloween
Excerpt from Blackout: 8
“I’m glad we packed up earlier.” Wyatt said, just to say something as they stepped into the cold.
“I don’t think I should drive home.” Kaity said, too wrapped in her own train of thought to notice that he had spoken at all.
“What? You didn’t drink anything?” Wyatt looked at her confused.
She looked at the time on her phone, “It’s almost two A.M. I’m never up this late. Plus, it’s a lot of work to grow a baby. I’m tired.” Seeing Wyatt had no idea what to say she continued, “Maybe I could stay with you.”
“You want to stay with me?” He stared at her blankly.
“If you don’t want me to, that’s fine. Maybe I could find a hotel.” She looked around as if there would be one within walking distance.
“No, no. Sorry, I’m just surprised you would ask to stay at my place. It’s fine. You can take my room. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“I am not sleeping in your bed.” Kaity said with a laugh.
“I won’t be in it.”
“No, it’s gross.”
“My bed?” Wyatt looked at her with a suppressed smile.
“Probably. I don’t know what boys do. Besides I know, well, never mind.”
Wyatt gasped in surprise, “Kaity!”
She shrugged, smiling awkwardly.
“Jesus, I don’t, no, my bed is clean. I even shower every night.” He laughed, “I thought you were a prude. Come on, I’ll give you a ride to your car and then you can follow me.”
When they reached the apartment, Kaity parked in the visitor parking he had told her to look for when he dropped her at her car. She found him waiting by the walkway after she got out.
“Here.” He took his sweater off and put it around her shoulders.
“No,” She tried to protest, but it was already on.
When they got inside, Wyatt turned a lamp on and told her to take a seat while he got some blankets and a pillow for her. She looked around the living room. It was fairly plain. There was a small coffee table that looked like it had seen better days, a couch which looked fairly new, and a TV which was fairly small, but well suited to the room.
“Here you go. Not sure when I last washed them, but I definitely did before I put them away in the closet. Might be dusty. Sorry.” Wyatt explained as he returned with a heavy throw blanket, another sort of fleece blanket and a pillow.
Kaity laughed. “I’m sure it’s fine. Thank you.”
Wyatt set the pile on the couch. “You need anything else? I think I have a back up tooth brush you could use.”
“Uh,” Kaity stood trying to decide if it would be weird to not brush her teeth before bed.
“It’s still in the package. I’ll put it on the counter.” He turned to go back down the hall.
“Wyatt,” Kaity called after him.
He stopped and turned back, “Yeah.”
“I really appreciate this.”
Wyatt smiled sweetly, “Happy to do it.” He lingered a moment before disappearing down the hall.
He emerged once before getting ready for bed himself and again to see if she needed anything and wish her a good night. Kaity took up his offer of a tooth brush and after brushing her teeth and rinsing her face, she went made herself a bed on the couch. She fell asleep almost immediately.
