It's said #GoodyHallet, the "red-healed-witch" of Wellfleet (sometimes Eastham) haunts this shore. . . An attractive young maiden of the early days of #CapeCod, Goidy (or Mary) fell in love with #pirate "Black Sam" Bellamy. Pirates sail off as pirates are wont to do, and left young Mary alone and with child, the story continues it's unhappy path and leads to the banishment of Miss Hallet who lived as a recluse for the remainder of her days. . . #BlackSamBellamy would be doomed to never return home to Cape Cod, his ship the #Whydah sinking in a ferocious storm just as it approached the coast. The lovers would never reunite and Goody Hallet's ghost still walks these dunes her screams taunting ships passing by. . . You can see Bellamy's bounty for yourself at the Whydah Pirate Museum in Provincetown, and Goody's name lives on with a meadow named for her above Marconi Beach. . . As for the #haunting it's said on that on occasion the ghost of #JennyLind again climbs her tower in nearby Truro, her song soothing the wicked cries of Mary. . . . #ghoststories #ghoststory #legends #talesofnewengland #historical #newengland #igersnewenland #travelblog #travelbloggers #jennylindtower #offseasoncapecodroadtrip . . .
