I heroforged the entire Blackscale clan (sans the kids, including Lambda and Reownha) as royal guardsmen, for my Princess Lambda roleswap AU. I think they turned out great. Notable changes include swapping weapons– mostly dexterity-based weapons for strength-based weapons, and I added a shield to Quespa's kit. Sekkala and Nethox keep daggers in their off-hands for the main gauche effect with their sword in the main hand.

Please do notice that Madre is in this overconfident 'come at me bro' pose with her huge chest and hips. Listen. She is still the group thot, and regrets nothing.

what if the true reason Sableflame was massacred was not because it was rumored to be a town of criminals

what if the land was owned by a wealthy Hylian noble who kept raising rent to the point of starving the Shiekah inhabitants. Potatoes are so loved by the Blackscales because they are hardy and have always had a history of sustaining the people, and there was a time when the local potato crop became blighted– and of course the lord took the opportunity to try to starve out the poor Sheikah community who relied on this crop.

The accusations of Sableflame being a criminal town were largely fabricated, even if the (relatively) wealthy Blackscale Shiekah family did have some underground ties. As a note, the Blackscale family always did their best to support their fellows who were in poverty by purchasing food and necessities for them, and this is part of why they were considered unofficial townmasters at the time of the massacre– they actually looked after the poor instead of actively trying to kill them as the ruling lord was.

This ruling lord was Lord Aramil Yaeldrin. Yes, related to Gateni Yaeldrin– her father, in fact. Gateni had a sense of fairness and equivalence towards everyone despite the deep hatred her father attempted to instill in her, leading to her clashing with him and deciding to enlist as a soldier, just to get distance between them. Then she found out the hard way that soldiers are also pawns of the ruling class, in this discovery choosing to murder her commanding officer in order to protect civilians that he had ordered her to 'exterminate.' That and Gateni's pardon are a whole 'nother story though.

On another side note, part of the Blackscale family's wealth pre-massacre came from a noble marriage– a son of the Faenorins married a daughter of the Blackscales, and the Blackscales gained some means through this union, even though it was not nearly enough to cast off the shackles places upon them by Lord Yaeldrin. Another part of the Blackscales' wealth came from hefty involvement in a merchant company, which that very Faenorin son helped to support with his family's fortune. These trade ties came in critical when blight hit the potatoes in Deplia, as it meant the Blackscales were able to acquire other foods more economically than they would have been otherwise. (Naturally this pissed off Aramil Yaeldrin even more.)

All of the Blackscales have a piece of Sirredes as proof of their membership, and all have a black dragon tattoo somewhere on their bodies as proof of their identities. Here's who has what and where:

Raithyon: Shard of horn. Two dragon tattoos, curled up either arm.

Reownha: Scale. Her dragon tattoo coils up her entire left arm.

Lambda: Fang. Her dragon tattoo coils up her entire right arm.

Sekkala: Shard of spike. Her dragon tattoo is on her back, wings splayed on her shoulder blades.

Madre: Claw. Her dragon tattoo is small but wide, placed just below her collarbone.

Riakshin: Fang. His tattoo is on his right shoulder– his sword shoulder.

Moko: Scale. His dragon tattoo coils around his left wrist, with the head resting on the back of the hand.

Horzai: Scale. Her dragon tattoo is on the left side of her neck, its head rearing up onto her cheek.

Nethox: Scale. His dragon tattoo coils on his ankle.

Quespa: Shard of spike. Her dragon tattoo is on her forehead.

Nethir: Scale. His dragon tattoo rests above his collarbone, stretching up the front of his neck.

Furrele: Scale. Her dragon tattoo coils about her right ear.

Cedric: Claw. His dragon tattoo is on his left shoulder.

Akra: Fang. Her dragon tattoo stretches up her right leg.

Heskran: Scale. He's got his dragon tattoo wrapped around his right ankle, the nose of the dragon pointing down his foot.

Back to Blackscale thought pot hours– in Age of Calamity, the Blackscales are absolutely working with the Hyrulean crown. They join much earlier than the Yiga Clan, but not too long before the Calamity revives, I imagine. I need to replay the game, though.

They're much more loyal to Zelda and her sincerity than Rhoam, even though Rhoam ended the Shiekah oppression. Honestly, though, it's mostly because Lambda feels a strange kinship with Zelda and wants to be her friend, and Raithyon tends to be a sucker for his kids. Not to mention Reownha likewise tends to follow Lambda because she idolizes her sister, so Lambda ends up forming a lot of the Blackscales' opinions on various faction leaders.

Is this an excuse for the Blackscales to interact with the Yiga in AoC verses? YES IT IS!

Never posted Quespa or Nethir's heroforges so I thought I'd include them with Furrele and Cedric.

I seem to like keeping the gender ratio in the Blackscales even.

New Blackscale clan members because Lamby thought more OCs were in order for some reason

Furrele Blackscale. A holy Shiekah woman who grew up in Sableflame. She was lucky enough to have left on a pilgrimage mere weeks before King Uther sent the regiment to raze it, thus Furrele escaped the killing and destruction. While traveling, she met Cedric Doran, formerly a soldier of that very regiment who deserted upon hearing what their mission was, and he told her what had become of her home. She tended to the wounds he had received in abandoning his former comrades, then, rather than verify the truth of his words (and walk into a possible trap), Furrele and Cedric wandered for a time. They chanced upon the surviving Blackscale clan members led by Raithyon and Sekkala, and Furrele knew the gods had granted them all a second chance– and she swore to put those very gods' divine magic to use in protecting the Blackscales and helping them find a new path in the world. The oldest member of the clan, at 52 years old.

Cedric Blackscale, formerly Cedric Doran. A Hylian bearing minor Shiekah blood who was once a soldier of Hyrule in King Uther's time, and on his first real march, was sent to destroy Sableflame. He abandoned his comrades when he realized what their purpose was, and was attacked for his cowardice as he fled. Met Furrele and warned her of what had happened to Sableflame, that it was no safe place now, and she tended to his wounds, grateful that he had told her, and that he would choose to suffer like this rather than help inflict similar suffering, along with death, unto others. Cedric wandered with Furrele, as he was a decent fighter and could keep her safe from monsters, until they found the remaining Blackscale clan, and joined forces. Helped train some of the younger Blackscales in combat arts. 51 years old.

Furrele and Cedric are married, with no children.
