There’s a video going around of a ten year old boy being detained and arrested by police. The child is so scared he pees his pants. I can’t watch it and I won’t share it. I just came to say, stay aware and SPEAK UP. Recently, the 7 year old boy child was refered to as ‘non-compliant.’ If you’d ever met the boy child you’d know this is as far from the truth as you could get. He’s a people pleaser - to his detriment in many ways. But these words were used. I’m on edge, I’m ANGRY, but mostly I’m resentful. I’m resentful that my child can’t simply go to school. That my tax dollars are not being used to give my child a PEACEFUL education. That I have to explain to him the intricacies of being Black in school... at 7. That I have to tell him that even his good behaviour has to be twice as good as everyone else’s. He has to stand extra still in line, he has to be sure not to get too excited in class, not to shift in his seat if he feels like it. Or not engage with any kid that may bother him in any way. Instead I have to teach him strategies, like loudly and politely asking the teacher to handle situations for him, so his response will not be misinterpreted or over analyzed. I have to teach my seven year old to police his behaviour, while dangerous and inflammatory language about my Black child is thrown around. This image of this poor child, handcuffed by police and so scared that he urinates, is what I see when I hear those words ‘non- compliant.’ This. #education #teachers #equity #equitylesson #school #schoolsout #blackhomeschoolers #homeschool #blackeducation #blackeducators #blackschool #blackkids #teacher #blackmomsblog #blackmoms #blackboys #blackboysmatter
