The Buffalo Soldiers were African American soldiers who served in the U.S. Army, originally formed in 1866 after the Civil War. They were part of the 9th and 10th Cavalry and 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments.  Their nickname, reportedly given by Native American tribes, symbolized their strength and determination.
