Okay, I don't know if I'm dumb as shit but is K a Nexus-9 replicant? Because there is a big gap between when Nexus-9 was introduced by Wallace in 2036 and the events of Blade Runner 2049. So like, are Nexus-9 still relevant over 10 years later? If not, then K is a Nexus-10. If they are, I'm not surprised K managed to break programming and I'd guess that Nexus-10 is being developed (as shown by that ""birth"" scene).

If I'm wrong, laugh at me, because I don't know the movie I'm the biggest fan of.

First of all, this trend. I realized they fit it perfectly AFTER I finished the drawing.

Deckard is so angry at everything and everyone - red, but under that there is so much sadness and loneliness - blue. Under all of that close mindedness and denial he is deeply sad. K is not exactly the opposite, but in a way he is. He is so so sad, alone, unvalued, and under his timid facade he is still violent and cold blooded like he is supposed to be. But at the same time, the red isn't really anger. It's more so his horrible and bloody circumstances. The barbed wire halos around their heads are supposed to symbolize that they are trapped. Barbed wire is used often to mean protection, but more often than not it's associated with imprisonment and danger, and if we combine both of those we get what Deckard and K have. They are both trapped in their dystopian world, unable to escape danger of their work, and the inability to be emotionally normal, if you will. Barbed wire is in a halo because both of them are put in positions of power and told that they are doing the right thing and are saving people, like they're clear of their "crimes". I don't wanna say the word but you know what I mean. Cracks in the background are damage.

I originally planned to draw just Deckard, and it was without even a background, it was an idea I got suddenly but so clearly in my mind that I absolutely needed to get out of my system. It turned out so good on the sketch and then splotches of colour so I decided to pursue the idea further into making a full art piece. Still without a background though. I did this whole thing without a background to accompany it. Just kinda drew it lmao. Anyway, as I was making it and reading the book in between my brain went into comparing Deckard with K, and so I started drawing K as well to see how it will come out. I liked the lineart so fucking much it's unbelievable, I rarely enjoy doing it as much as that time. When I was done with Deckard and K I didn't really know what to do from there, but I did have the idea of putting something that would symbolize and make their characters distinct, so that's why I put those lines on their jackets. I originally saw them as very close parallels (not only because of the jacket attachment thing lmao) , so that was only logical. Then... background came... I didn't wanna fuckin do it. But man, I couldn't just not. So I just sucked it up and went with the opposite colours. But I also wanted halos around them (again), and I set out to search for things which symbolize denial and hope that I could use for the halos, but then... I couldn't find anything. Only thing I had on my mind is barbed wire, so I googled the meaning of that and decided I could put it behind both of them. Also it was a stencil from Pinterest that I found but because I couldn't remove the background of it properly I again sucked it up and drew it all myself (thanks to my square brush). The cracks were a last minute addition just cuz I felt like the background was too empty.

It's been explicitly confirmed that Deckard has a long sturdy jacket somewhat like the one K has and is very fond of it

I wanna both gently hug and squeeze and shake K like a chew toy and idk what to do about it. The man needs a hug. And a little bit of reassurance too. I like his character so much I'm gonna become violent towards him and shoot him in the face

I enjoy all the comparisons to Nazi Germany and the Third Reich and antisemitism the book characters make and I absolutely would write more about it however I am not NEARLY educated let alone ready for that. I see the parallels and allusions I see the blatant words. I really really do I just don't know how to talk about it correctly without making myself sound like a complete idiot
