Silver

🍉 : Does your OC have a particular piece of jewellery that they always wear or refuse to part with?

He would tell you that he’s already such a work of art - no, a masterpiece - in his own right, and he doesn’t need any more decoration, but that’s only like...85% true.  He does own and wear jewelry, mostly stuff that goes on his hands like this, or this; he just says he doesn’t need it so his patrons stop giving him so much.  It usually ends up getting sent south with refugees so they can sell it, and Silver tells the patron who gave it to him that he’s having it cleaned, but he feels absolutely naked without it.  The only piece of jewelry that he actually can’t stand to be without is a small silver claw ring that fits on his thumb, like the one Lestat wears, that he similarly uses to draw blood - only a finger prick, though, since he can’t stand the sight of much more - should he need to.

🍪: What is something that’s sentimental to you OC?

His sister, though his relationship with her is not quite what he’d imagined having a sibling would be like. By the time of the Conclave, they’ve only known each other as siblings for about four or five years; before that, they knew each other only peripherally through Aularia and Rexus, both of whom are believed dead after the events of The Swim Upstream. It took a hot minute for her to understand and warm up to the idea of him as her brother, but ultimately neither of them would have had adequate support (or any at all, in Silver’s case) through a time of terrible grief without the other and they grew close because of it.  She drives him absolutely batshit insane, of course, but he treasures her, the letters she diligently writes, the large, warm crocheted wrap she made for him so he wouldn’t be cold when he visits, the way she calls him ‘Adi’ (short for his real name, Adrian), all her little gestures of acceptance and concern…he’s figured out that’s how she shows love, and it means the world to him.

🍷 : What’s one of your OC’s pet peeves concerning food?

Being able to see it after it’s entered someone else’s mouth. It makes him want to throw up, and drawing attention to how squeamish he is is one of the worst ways someone could insult him.

🍻 : What’s your OC’s favourite comfort ritual? How do they calm themselves down after a rough day?

Silver’s philosophy when dealing with stress, either his or anyone else’s, is “why don’t you go sit in water for a while and maybe you’ll calm down”. For himself at least, he’s always right: a nice bath or a swim will have him calm and centered in no time, though he’ll probably stay there for hours whether he needs to or not.  Notably, he also doesn’t necessarily want to be left alone the whole time, and will welcome company that isn’t the reason he needs to calm down in the first place.

🎂 : Has your OC have any contradictory interests or traits to the first preception people have of the? How do they surprise people?

I mean, he kind of prides himself on outwardly being just as rude, crude, and socially unacceptable as people initially perceive him to be, and sometimes that in itself can be surprising.  Like...he can’t really be that awful, right??  WRONG.  Well, sometimes.  Sometimes he’s surprisingly human.  

🍹 : Does your OC have any funny anecdotes told about them?

Oh, you know he does.  He encourages it, actually.  He’s a big fan of things getting around to his father that embarrass him and tarnish his family’s reputation.  A lot of things people would tell others about him like “you wouldn’t BELIEVE the reprehensible thing this absolute motherfucker did” are things he considers “funny anecdotes” about him.  The only stories about him he doesn’t revel in are the ones where he’s subjugated in some way.  He’ll still own them, but only to reverse that point of the story; acting like he doesn’t care takes that power away from whoever was trying to subjugate him, and their offense at that idea makes it even better.  

Silver likes to tell stories of taking petty revenge on Rexus, though not in his presence so as to maintain the shaky illusion that the reason Rexus can’t seem to fit in some of his clothes or in certain chairs as well as he used to is because he’s somehow growing larger relative to the Oasis itself, or that age, idleness, and relative plenty compared to before Silver brought him back to Minrathous has caused him to gain considerable weight, and not because Silver surreptitiously took his clothes out of the wash and had them altered to be just slightly smaller, or replaced his furniture with identical but slightly smaller versions.  Even though watching Rexus try to spin such a thing to where he wasn’t actually falling for anyone’s tricks and was, in fact, onto him the whole time is incredibly amusing.

🍟 : What does your OC admit to be their guilty pleasure? What actually is their guilty pleasure?

He says that there’s no pleasure he wouldn’t admit to, but just you try getting him to admit how much Crusty McDirtball here agrees with Silver that sitting in hot soapy water that smells good for a while is a miracle cure for literally any foul mood whatsoever.  Or that snuggling someone is actually pretty nice.

🍕 : How does an OC spend a lazy day?

He’s a lazy guy, so almost all of his days are lazy.  Sleeping, drinking, bothering people, that sort of thing.

2. Who in the party would your character trust the most with their life?

At this point? Hyrr, with Kvetha a close second. The Stormboom clan have known goliaths, especially Circle druids, for as long as there have been Stormbooms. It’s innate at this point, and it helps that Hyrr and Kve have been kind to Sig. (Also that Sig has crushes on both of them.)

9. What deity, if any, does your character worship? What’s their opinion on other people’s worship?

Siggri doesn’t worship so much, but they’ll pray to the goliath pantheon in a pinch, and they respect anyone else’s worship. The exceptions are a) people whose “worship” harms others, e.g. religious bigotry or blood sacrifice, and b) people who worship Auril. They’ll beat the shit outta a’s and give b’s a wide wide berth.

11. Describe your character’s current relationship with [Arsen].

So Sig’s got yet another Big Ol Crush on our local bard. A lot of it is rooted in wanting to help and protect him. Holding him all the way across the lake because he hates the water, trying to keep him safe after he picked up that Fucky Crystal, etc. They’re as wary around post-crystal Arsen as they are around anything they’re not sure of, but they’re starting to come back around on him. They still have that crush.

13. Does your character ever want to “settle down” with a spouse, children, house, etc.?

Sig is a family bear. It’s even what drove them to leave home, to reunite their family. They grew up in a tight-knit family in a tight-knit clan; they want that in the future too. Not sure about children of their own body, logistically, but if there’s an orphan Stormboom cub that needs adopting in the future, Sig’s there.

48. What aspect of your character’s future are they most curious about? (If they could know one thing about the future, what would it be?)

Hmmmm, probably whether their family will ever truly be reunited again. But Sig’s also, unfortunately, the type who doesn’t look hard or realistically at the future for fear of what it holds. They mainly stick with goals and dreams.

49. What colors are associated with your character?

White, for sure, and pale blue and pale gold. A deep, warm black as well.

83. How far is your character willing to go to pursue the “greater good”? Do they believe in a greater good at all?

Siggri has a genuinely good and kind heart. They’ll help anyone they can -- see: kobolds. However, present them with a choice between, say, saving Yark or saving the entire Dale? They wouldn’t know which to choose.

84. What does your character want to be remembered by?

Remembered? Siggri just wants to be loved, man. If the Stormbooms remember them even a little as a good soul, if they become a Stormboom ancestor to turn the family line toward good a little more, they’ll have a happy afterlife.

I decided to go with Adiran for this one (my grumpy princeling from Talvera - all answers under the cut)!

💋 How affectionate are they with their friends? Their family? Their romantic partner(s) (if they have any)? Are they more physical or emotional when it comes to displaying their affection? Why?

Adiran is very subdued when it comes to showing affection. I mean, he hasn’t exactly had a healthy model for it, growing up, and being part of Talveran royalty comes with a certain amount of prudishness, lest you give the wrong impression. With his friends, Adiran basically shows affection by laughing. Genuinely, of course. For him, that’s a form of letting down his guard, so it means he both likes and trusts you. He is also candid to a fault, so anyone he calls friend has to have a tough skin by default, because he won’t sugar coat things (especially if he is asked for advice on something - he’ll just say exactly what he thinks, no matter how rough it might be to hear).

With a partner, Adiran starts out very physical, because he genuinely thinks that’s the way it’s meant to be. Like, he is under the impression that the physical side of the relationship is what makes the person a partner, rather than just a good friend, and he tries very hard to ‘do his part’ as a result. That fact that he struggles with his emotions also makes physically engaging in affection easier, and before Riin, it’s basically where his romantic relationships began and stayed. However, he does discover that he’s someone who craves emotional intimacy more than physical. He just never realised knew that was actually an option, and never knew how to ask for it.

📀 How easy is it to shock your OC? To confuse them? To lie to them, to manipulate them? How are they with feelings of trust? Can your OC be trusted?

Adiran can be shocked pretty easily, as well as confused. He’s lived quite a sheltered life, and while he is intelligent and well-read, he definitely lacks worldly savvy. As soon as something is out of his field of knowledge, he struggles to adapt. Lying to and manipulating him is a tricky one. On the one hand, he’s been lied to and manipulated for most of his life by his family, the court, and everything in-between. However, for the most part, he’s perfectly aware that it is happening. He just has no real choice but to go along with it. Once he’s out of that environment, he is pretty good at reading people and their intentions. He claims it’s one of the few benefits of spending every awful courtly function people-watching instead of drinking and flitting about. 

Regarding the people he knows/cares for, Adiran can absolutely be trusted. 

🥝 What does a bad mental health day look like for your OC? Walk us through it with them. What kind of things can help them out of this slump and what kinds of things comfort them when they start to feel like this?

He gets extremely frustrated/snappy when he’s having a bad mental health day. His fuse is very short, and he finds it genuinely difficult to be around anyone (especially if they want anything from him). For the most part, he just wants to be left alone on those days, because having to consciously mediate his mood to avoid hurting the people he cares about takes more than he has to give. In that way, keeping away actually is helping him. However, those closest to him also know that bringing him something small (a meal, a book, etc.) to help distract him from his mood is another way to help, and even if he seems put-off by the intrusion, he actually does appreciate it (and will awkwardly say as much when he’s feeling better, typically while returning the favour).

🌸 What does your OC’s voice sound like? Their laugh? Are they good at singing? Do they have an accent?

I’m so sorry I really hate voice questions - I suck at them. Uh... I guess he has a tenor voice, and when he genuinely laughs, it always sounds like it caught him by pleasant surprise. He was trained to sing as a child, but he resented it with a deep and unrelenting passion (so he can sing, but will only do so under pain of death). He has a Talveran accent, but I have no idea how to describe it so I won’t lol

Boy where do I even beGIN with vampire!Thelrand?? He is basically the Flanderization of his original character, so he is more impulsive, flirty, demanding, slutty, aggressive, the list goes on. BUT as a vampire, he has little, if any, actual consequences for his actions because his maker, Dorian, gets him out of trouble every single time.So why wouldn’t he indulge himself all the pleasures that life has to offer? Pleasures he was denied as a human because he was disowned and destitute? He has a second chance at life, damnit, he’s not gonna worry about maintaining a pure and good image when Dorian is there to keep it squeaky clean for him. Of course, this all changes when Thelrand pursues a witch of all people and is foolish enough to continue pursuing her when she doesn’t give him what she wants, but that’s a story for another time...
