I wouldn’t say Blaine and Santana are great friends, but they’re not enemies either, as a lot of Santana fans try to say.

Realistically how close was Santana to Kurt as well until season 4 and 5 in NY anyway? He had more interaction with Brittany in season 1.

Season 2 and Santana is trying to win Brittany, and comes up with the plan to date Karofsky and win Prom queen. In doing, she pretends to protect Kurt from bullying. She has very little interaction with Blaine in 2, but then he didn’t really with any of the ND but Rachel.

And then in 3, well she’s not happy about Perfect but then again, everyone pissed her off then. And there’s then very little until she confronts Sebastian in Michael about Blaine’s eye injury. Is that because she hates Sebastian or to defend her fellow ND members?

In 4, again she stands up for Blaine when Kurt is with Adam, when it’s pretty obvious to her that Kurt still loves Blaine. She clearly doesn’t hate the idea that they should be back together, despite the hurt caused.

Season 5 starts with her very enthusiastically supporting the proposal at Dalton. No one can tell me she’s not as happy as Rachel or Mercedes.

And in season 6, when she is mighty pissed off with Kurt, she kinda takes Blaine’s side and the infamous rant shows she has some sort of friendship with Blaine, plus then allowing them to be married with her and share her big day, even if it is to keep Brittany happy.

I think she sees that Blaine makes Kurt happy in the long run, and that they both want to be back together after the split in 6. Just as she is with Brittany.

And also, Blaine has a nice friendship with Brittany throughout season 3 and4 in Lima, they have silly dancing and performances together. And Blaine looks out for her in Britney 2.0. If he’s kind to Brittany, pretty sure Santana likes him for it.

The show only gave us crumbs of Blaintana interacting, and it mostly looks like they’re on good terms. I don’t mind if people want to call it a friendship?

I admit, I skipped most of 4, 5, & 6 so I (obviously) missed quite a bit.

My head canon (mainly from Brittany telling Kurt that if he wants to get Blaine back he needs to change everything about himself) is that Santana and Brittany don't hate Blaine but they don't necessarily like him.

But you've definitely given me reasons to revisit my thoughts (but not enough to rewrite my canon-ish/canon-adjacent stories 😉) on Blaintana and maybe shift some things in my next canon-ish/canon-adjacent fic.
