Due to watching The Long Shadow (2024) about the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. Vicky Myers plays a small role as a WPC in several of the seven episodes. It got me thinking:
The title Woman Police Constable (WPC) was only replaced in 1999 in the UK. That’s when they transitioned to everyone just being PC, etc.

If Idris had been white, would that Gavin guy have called off the deal or did he do it because Idris "threatened" him (knowing where he lives, telling him the deal wasn't for him - didn't seem particularly threatening on the surface - to me -. Knowing Idris has had people beat up and has been a little shady it seemed like he WAS threatening him BUT Gavin doesn't know Idris' proclivities for not-so-above-board dealings so I didn't *think* Idris seemed all that threatening ---- god, did any of that even make sense?)
Anyway - My American ass was wondering if it had been ... say, Steve ... delivering that message - would Gavin have reacted the same way? Or is it because Idris isn't white? Because I know how it would be HERE in the US ... I'm just not sure how prevalent or how big of a problem racism is in the UK.
Anyway, again, I am asking people to be respectful when they put me on blast because I *genuinely* don't know and doubt Google would give me an answer. look into local ordinances and such to see what the rules for installing a road sign is, because honestly looking at that one in this picture it appears to be placed illegally, to close to the actual roadway, which makes it a hazard, doubly so if it wasn't installed properly and inspected by whoever it is that has the job of inspecting this kind of thing.

Every now and then I see Corrie watching people in the wild (as in social media outside of tumblr) and they complain that Lisa will end up arresting everyone on the street. You know what, why not LOL. I actually enjoy seeing Lisa in these scenes because 1) it's not real life, 2) 🔥. It doesn't always have to be a big case, I enjoyed her 30 seconds in today's episode when she came to see Tim and Sally. Did I mention hot?
Jodie, girl, I can't watch your scenes without second hand embarrassment. What is her goal? She seems like she's the girl who thinks "I can fix him" about a man who's going through it but what does she get out of it? First David, then what's his name teacher Barlow whom I don't like, now Kit. And she's not being genuine about being into them either so I don't know.
Kit's a mess after Sarah ended things with him. Okay. I don't mind seeing him sad and lost lmaooooo. I'm sure my enjoyment will lessen when he does something stupid but for now it's nice to see him knocked down a peg.
Maria should have taken the kids to Florida by herself. I'm sure they'd have a lot of fun. Gary could just sit this one out and the kids would think he's lame but not irredeemably so.

So I was wrong about Tim thankfully (well more about what the story is doing). I'm glad he's not covering for that cousin whose name evades me. I hope you're right that they'll take that girl in. I hope Tim won't let his cousin manipulate him just because of Tim's guilt when he didn't do anything wrong here at all.

LOL I did enjoy seeing Lisa today but I was definitely left wanting more. Yes, hot. Especially hotter because she was softer today showing the empathetic Lisa we rarely see when she's DS Connor-Swain.

I admit to being intrigued, at first, by Jodie. But the intrigue has become downright – WTF – her character makes zero sense in anything/everything she does. Corrie needs to give us SOME context because, now? I'm just tired of her and want her to go away.

Tracy is a gob on a stick (I'm not even British but I've heard that enough to be confident in using it in this context). She seriously needs to just shut it. (Here's the funny thing – I want Jodie to go away. I don't actually want Tracy to go away because I love it when someone gets the better of her (which is often, I've noticed) – Tracy fans must be so annoyed at the constant way Tracy never wins.

I'm getting the sense that we won't see GIDCA much, if at all. I think he really was just introduced as a vessel for Tim's SL. We may see the girl (Lucy, I believe her name is). I know I read a spoiler about her and Lily getting into it so that should be interesting if she does move onto the Street. Unless, of course, he's found to have acted in self-defense. Which, again, IDC.

I'm so upset because I had a dream that there was a spoiler that next week a new character is coming to the show and it's Lisa's mother and then I woke up and realized it was the product of my dreams... ugh I wishhhhh
Getting some more Swarla scenes would be nice ... and I hate those dreams that feel real and you wake up and you're like ... dammit.
I think it'll be awhile before we get any of Lisa's backstory or family stuff. Aside from her flippant mention of her sister and how Lisa was the favorite ... we've got nothing to go on.
Ok ... I waited all day to watch because ... I really don't care about much of what's going on. (It's currently 8:30pm EST ... so ... 1:30am UK)
Still. *sighs* As per my pattern of behavior - it will take something massive to get me to stop watching (no matter how much I gripe and complain - so, fair warning on that).

I think I might have been right - the whole GIDCA thing was to put Tim and Sally in the light ... maybe they end up with this Lucy girl. Tim was definitely shook up; I think he does believe that it may have been self-defense. I'm wondering how this is going to play out between Tim and Sally and, again, I think that may have been GIDCA's appearance. How Tim copes, what if they add another kid into the mix ... could be a decent SL.
Kit. Yeah, I wanna feel bad for him. And, in a way, I do. He obviously loves Sarah. I will be interested to see if they stay broken up after Sarah is released. (I'm convinced she's not going to prison). He's going to be an ass about it, though, I can just tell. (Now, I get heartbreak is hard and nobody handles it well but I can just see Kit being OVERLY bad at handling it). (And ... someone should tell him that drinking doesn't solve anything ... might even cause a problem if the spoilers about Harry prove true). ... And ... hmmmm ... interesting, that little bit of mystery about Kit - first the voice mail, now he's going to "be somewhere" - changing jobs to win Sarah back? Therapy? Something shady having to do with the spoilers about Sarah being blackmailed and Kit not taking her calls? Could be almost anything.
Jodie ... WTF is she playing at NOW? God, I seriously want her to go AWAY.
So ... this "large pint" is a thing? Because Bethany said "a big pint of water" ... just like Carla said a "large pint" a couple of weeks ago.
Tracy ... EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. she's on my screen, I hate her that much more. First her bullshit with trying to get Amy to leave work early (and LIE about it...like, okay, she's got a migraine, gets sent home early, and Nick sees her at the flower shop twenty minutes later when he stops in to get Toyah a bouquet for "I'm sorry I'm so beige"), then shooting off her big gob about GIDCA and Tim's dad. (Of course, just as Tim and Sally walk in)
I enjoyed Amy, though. Her response to Kit "I literally just asked what can I get ya" when he sniped off was perfect and she really deals with Tracy well, surprisingly.
I don't really *like* Steve ... but I don't actually *dislike* him either. I will concede that him following up with Tim, almost immediately, was a stand-up thing to do.
I still don't like David.
Yeah. I'm worn out with the Gary/Maria drama and ... Gary being stuck in Weatherfield ... maybe Maria and Izzy could have taken the boys and come back ... as the next lesbian couple to own a house on Coronation Street? (Yeah, I know...just me being tired of Gary and Maria, tbh).
LOL at Ben in the background when he heard Gary tell Maria "I've not got a leg to stand on". Too effin' funny.

There was not nearly enough of Lisa today. Still, a little is better than none. I love how - soft - she can be when it calls for it. She handled Tim carefully - not like a suspect (cuz he's not) but like a *Friend*. She's a good copper - hardass but empathetic when necessary. God, I love this character.
Hopefully, Ali is mended enough to come back to work a little more and we'll get some Swarla goodness. However, I hope she does take all the time she needs - last year had to have been really difficult, both SL wise and personally. I will satisfy myself with rewatches and fanfiction.

I think it’s important to remember everything you’ve ever written for any fandom. Popular, niche, undiscovered, weird pairs or even just written for yourself. Expressing yourself even if it’s just in a small space is important.
It's easy to get caught up on one or two negative comments and dismiss all the positive comments. For whatever reason, that's what we do.
Fight against it. Your work is worth reading/seeing. Don't delete that work. People are enjoying it and are bummed when they can't find it. Listen to people you know/admire/respect. Like an author? Ask their opinion. Same with an artist. Most are willing to help.
I am probably going to reblog this a lot because far too many fics are disappearing and I can't help but think it's because of the huge wave of negativity/accusation of ai that's hitting AO3 right now. Half my bookmarks are deleted fics. Fics I wanted to read. Don't do that to your fans just because you got a hater.
