Blaisabelle Future Drabble - The Neverending Bedtime Story
(This drabble will have no effect on current or future threads.)
Isabelle sat at the edge of her little daughter’s bed, finishing up the third story of the night. She and Blaise had been married for ten wonderful years now, and the two of them couldn’t be any happier. It was tough at the beginning, what with the brunette unable to bear him a child, but the two kept their undying love for each other throughout all the strife, and finally, after years and years of waiting, the loving couple was able to adopt their own beautiful baby girl, Alleyah.
"Another one!!" the bubbly four year old prodded, still not just the tiny bit sleepy even though it was way past her bedtime.
"Another one? Alleyah, I have read you more books then I’ve read in my entire life!" Isabelle teased, smiling lovingly down at her daughter. It was crazy, a wonderful thing, how the girl could be so much like her and Blaise together - having his love of books along with her unbounded energy. Sometimes it was hard to believe that she was really adopted.
"Well it doesn’t have to be a booook!" Alleyah objected, her eyes pleading. “Just a story! Any story! Pleeeaaasseeee?" She clasped her tiny hands together, looking up at Isabelle with her famous puppy dog eyes, something no one was able to say no to.
"If you insist…" she finally relented, causing a loud squeal to erupt from the small girl in bed. “What do you want?" she asked. “Adventure? Romance? A comedy?" Isabelle leaned over and began tickling Alleyah in the sides, the girl turning into a mess of squeals and giggles.
"Stoopp! That tickles!! Mommyyy!" Her squeals only made Isabelle tickle her even more, both of them a mess of giggles and laughter.
"What’s going on in here?" A deep, stern voice erupted from the doorway, both heads snapping up to see Blaise standing there with his arms crossed over his chest, trying to hold a mock-disciplinary stance until finally he and the rest of the small family couldn’t take it anymore and erupted into a joyous array of laughter. “So what were my two favorite girls in the world talking about?" he asked, smiling lovingly at his family as he made his way to the bed, leaning over to give Alleyah a quick kiss on the forehead before taking a seat behind Isabelle, wrapping his arms around her small waist. “Hi," he whispered softly into her ear.
"Hi," Isabelle whispered back, smiling as she turned her head to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. “Well Alleyah and I were just-"
"Mommy’s gonna tell me a story!!" the little girl interrupted, grinning ear to ear.
"A story? Well it looks like I came in at the right time then!" he smiled. “Lord knows I love a good story. What are we reading?"
"Well actually-" Isabelle tried, but was once again interrupted.
"Mommy’s gonna tell me the story of how you two fell in love!" Alleyah burst out, making a quick decision as usual.
Isabelle looked at her daughter, surprised. “I was?"
The small girl nodded proudly. “Mhm!
Turning his head a bit to smile warmly at his wife, Blaise exclaimed, “Well then I am certainly glad I came in for this then!" before giving her a playful wink.
Isabelle rolled her eyes, unable to hold back a smile. “Alright, Alright.. I’ll tell you the story of how we fell in love," she gave in, causing a cheer to erupt from both daughter and father. “But then it’s bedtime…for both of you!"
Alleyah groaned. “Okay, Okay! Just get on with the story!" she prodded.
"Yeah, Isabelle. Get on with the story!" Blaise joined in, laughing as he nuzzled his head into her neck, swaying their bodies to the side a bit. “We don’t have all night, my love!"
Isabelle laughed, moving her hands to his. “You’re a goof," she giggled, rolling her eyes. Directing her attention back to Alleyah she spoke, “Your father wasn’t always such a fun guy, you know…. In fact, he was a pretty big stick in the mud."
Alleyah giggled. “A stick in the mud?"
"Yup! The biggest stick in the mud since the invention of sticks and mud, in fact!" She turned her head once again to look at Blaise, a small laugh escaping her lips. “Actually, I’m pretty sure he used to hate me.."
"Hey! I did not hate you!" Blaise immediately retorted. “I just.. you know.. thought you were annoying," he smirked. “And I’ve always been fun! You and I just had different definitions of fun!"
Isabelle shook her head, having heard that excuse time after time. “Whatever you say, stick-brain," she teased, smirking right back at him.
"That’s right. Because Blaise Stick-in-the-Mud LeGume is never wrong!" he stated proudly.
Isabelle laughed, rolling her eyes as she turned back to Alleyah. "Anyway, your father and I… Well, we didn’t always exactly like each other… or he didn’t at least.." She chuckled a bit, recalling back on their childhood. “I had the biggest crush on him when we were kids… embarrassing, really, and I’d just talk to him for hours, annoying the poor guy to death," she giggled.
"Ooohhh you liked him as a kid?!" Alleyah gasped. “Is that when you guys started dating?!"
Isabelle chuckled. “Yeah, no… I’m afraid little Blaise was too caught up in those books of his to even notice little ole me," she sighed, watching as Alleyah looked back at her father to confirm this.
"She’s right!" he agreed. “Socially awkward Blaise had no time for small annoying girls who apparently liked to jump up behind people and scare them!" he smirked, causing another roll of the eyes from Isabelle.
"Well if you didn’t fall in love then… than when did you?!" the girl asked, a bit confused.
"Not until much later…" Isabelle sighed. “In fact, your father was in love with a whole other woman before me!"
Alleyah gasped, her eyes growing wide at the thought. “Nuh uh!! He couldn’t have! Daddy only loved you!" She turned to Blaise, looking for him to back her up. “Right, Daddy?"
Blaise shook his head. “As much as I wish that were true, kiddo, I’m afraid your mother is once again right. I was…in love before your mom, almost engaged actually…" He held Isabelle closer to him. “Ended up getting my heart broken…"
The small family was silent for a moment, mostly from Alleyah taking this in, her eyebrows furrowed as this didn’t make sense to her. In all of her storybooks the couples would have just one love, one true love of their lives that they were meant to be with. How could he have possibly been in love with someone else? He was meant to be with Mommy…and only Mommy. “But-but that’s not how love stories work!" she objected, shaking her head. “You couldn’t have been in love with someone else because Mommy is your true love! You can’t have that twice…It’s not… It’s not right!"
Isabelle couldn’t help but laugh. “Not all love stories are fairytales, squirt. Sometimes things happen a little differently…and in our case…Well, I guess we’re just not your usual love story…" She shrugged, caressing her thumbs against the backs of Blaise’s hands as she looked back on everything, knowing that despite all the difficulties she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Alleyah sighed, crossing her arms. “If you say so…" she finally gave in, her tone giving it away that she really wasn’t happy with this. “Just go on with the story I guess…"
"Now wait just a minute, kiddo!" Blaise interrupted, his tone light as he shook his head. “Look at you, being all glass is half-empty.." He chuckled, bringing a hand to the top of her head and ruffling her hair a bit. “You can’t get yourself all wrapped up over something that happened way back in the past… I’m with your mother now…I have you, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Besides, we haven’t even finished with the story yet!" Moving his hand back to Isabelle’s he this time threaded his fingers with hers, giving her a gentle squeeze. “Go on, my love," he encouraged, a tiny, soft smile on his lips.
Isabelle nodded. “Well… After things ended with the woman, your father…He acted a bit different…sadder, I guess, and it’s not like you can blame him… Heartbreak….it’s a terrible thing."
Alleyah quirked a brow. “How would you know anything about heartbreak? You ended up with the guy you liked….right?"
"Right, I did. But there was a time in my life where I too didn’t have feelings for him.. I was in love with someone else before him…someone.. Well let’s just say it was a mistake."
Alleyah groaned, flopping back onto her back. “This is not how the story is supposed to go," she complained pouting a bit. “But I guess you say the story isn’t over….What happened next?"
"Your mother saved me," Blaise answered, almost as if it just came out on his own. He turned his head to his wife, squeezing her hand as he gave her a loving smile, nodding a bit. “Your mother saved me," he repeated again.
"Saved you?" Alleyah asked, sitting up again as her interest was once again peaked. “How did she save you…? You weren’t captured by aliens or something were you? Cause I have heard that story from Grandpa waaayyy too many times…."
Blaise laughed, knowing exactly the story she was talking about. “No, not captured by aliens," he shook his head. “It was more of an….emotional saving I guess you could say," he shrugged. “Like your mother said I was very sad for awhile…in a very dark place. I was honestly not a very fun person to be around.." He sighed, recalling back on those days. “But your mother…Isabelle, she.. She accepted me, despite all that. She used to come into my room and beg me over and over to go with her on that flying metal deathtrap of hers," he chuckled, but then shook his head. “For some crazy reason this beautiful girl wanted to spend time with me despite all of my issues…and I love her for that."
"Awwww!!" Alleyah squealed, back to her usual joyful self. “So you guys got together then? Fell in love, lived happily ever after?" She looked excitedly between the two of them, hoping for a yes.
Blaise chuckled. “No…not exactly. You see, while Isabelle was able to make me happier during that time, it...It kind of scared me.. the feelings that ended up coming with it.." He sighed. "I just wasn't ready to open myself up to that again.. so I ended up pushing her away for awhile.."
"Yeah, and right after our first kiss too!" Isabelle chimed in.
Alleyah shook her head disapprovingly. "Bad Daddy," she teased, but then smiled at the mention of the kiss. "Oooohh! You guys kissed?! When? How did it happen? Where? Awwww!"
Isabelle laughed. "Where do you get all this energy from?" she giggled. "But yes, we did. Right outside this house in fact...at the waterfall," she smiled. "I'd finally convinced him to go on the surfer with me, and-"
"And almost killed us!" Blaise interrupted. "I'm telling you, your mother is crazy."
Isabelle shook her head laughing. "Uhmm actually I believe it was you who who almost killed us, Mr. I'm-Gonna-Put-All-My-Strength-Onto-The-Accelerator-Like-A-Mad-Man," she teased, turning her head to stick her tongue out at him.
"Well you could've at least warned me or something, Miss I'm-The-Best-Teacher-Ever-Nothing-Bad-Could-Ever-Happen," he smirked.
Isabelle rolled her eyes. "Well we're still alive, aren't we?"
"Yes, bu-"
"That's all that matters," she smirked, giving his hand a light squeeze. Turning her attention back to Alleyah, who was at the moment giggling at her parent's silly banter, she continued, "Soo after your father almost killed us, I took him here."
"Here? ....As in the house?" Alleyah asked, confused.
"Oh, nonono," Isabelle laughed. "This house wasn't even here at that time....I meant here as in the waterfall," she explained. "This place...it sorta became our spot. It's where we shared our first kiss." The brunette smiled, memories from before rushing through her brain, happy memories that she never wanted to forget.
"Yup!" Blaise smiled and kissed her cheek. "Our spot," he grinned. "But then of course I had to be an idiot and tell her none of this...us, could happen," he sighed.
"Mmhmm... ignored my letters, started seeing another woman and everything..." Isabelle sighed as well. "That was not a happy time for us," she recalled.
"Another woman? Daddy! Didn't you know you were supposed to end up with Mommy?" she asked, disappointment in her voice.
Blaise chuckled at how wrapped up his daughter was in the story. "Well, no, I didn't... I believed I wasn't good enough for her....I thought what I was doing was for the best.. Obviously it wasn't."
"Obviously!!" Alleyah agreed, her eyes wide. "So what happened next? Please tell me you dumped that girl and got with Mommy..."
"Something like that," he answered, still chuckling.
"Yeah, I wasn't too happy when I found out," Isabelle added, remembering that day quite well. "But.. things ended up working out..." She smiled. "Your father ended up asking me on our first date. We went to a dance."
"Ooohhh, a dance?! How romantic..." Alleyah sighed.
"Mmhmm! She wore a dress and everything!" Blaise teased. "It wasn't too long after that that we made things official." He smiled. "And, of course, not too long after that that we fell in love..." The man turned his head once again to gaze at his wife, she returning the same amount of love in her eyes that he was giving her.
"So then you lived happily ever after?" the little blonde asked, really really hoping she'd get a yes this time.
Isabelle smiled, turning back to her daughter. "Sure," she sighed. "Something like that..." Truth be told, the journey with Blaise hadn't been anywhere near perfect, what with many rocky roads and several ups and downs along the way, but their love for each other only grew and continued to grow even to this day, making Isabelle happier than ever, not wanting it any other way.
"Thank goodness!" Alleyah exclaimed, having gotten a bit overwhelmed by all the drama. "I was beginning to think you were gonna tell me you still aren't together!" she giggled, but then let out a tiny yawn, suddenly, finally, beginning to get sleepy.
Blaise smiled down at his daughter. "Well it looks like it's time for you to get to bed, kiddo."
Alleyah sighed. "Awww, but can't I have just one more story!" she protested, even though she began subconsciously sinking back into her pillows, another yawn escaping her mouth.
"Sorry, squirt. But the agreement was one more story and then bedtime," Isabelle reminded her, already getting up to tuck her tiny daughter in, bringing the covers up to her chin. "And look. You can barely keep your eyes open!" she exclaimed, noticing the girls eyes slowly drifting shut. Leaning down, the brunette kissed her daughter on the forehead and whispered, "Goodnight," before smiling softly at Blaise and exiting the room, only to turn at the doorway and watch as the man she loved continued to tuck in her precious daughter.
"Who loves you?" he asked, a usual ritual for the father-daughter couple before bedtime.
"You," Alleyah smiled.
"For?"
"Ever."
"No matter?"
"What." Her eyes drifting shut.
He smiled. "That's right," he whispered, and leaned down to kiss her on the forehead as well. "Goodnight, kiddo."
Blaise turned off the light walked out of the room, circling behind Isabelle and wrapping his arms around her small frame. The two stood there for a moment in silence, just looking over their sleeping child, both in their own little world. “Thank you," Blaise whispered, breaking the silence with his soft voice.
"For what?" Isabelle asked, still not having torn her eyes away from Alleyah.
"For everything," he answered, almost automatically as he rested his chin onto her shoulder. “For making me happy again… For.. For putting up with me even throughout all the hardship." His voice was gentle, soft and honest, filled with all the love he had for her.
Not knowing what to say, the brunette turned her body in his arms so she could face him and just smiled softly up at him, gazing into those sparkly blue hues that she loved so much. “I love you, Blaise," she whispered, bringing a hand to his cheek and rubbing her thumb softly against his skin.
"I love you too, Isabelle." He smiled. “Forever and always."
Isabelle leaned up onto her toes, connecting their lips in a gentle kiss, one filled with all the love and adoration she had for him. “Forever and always," she breathed.
A Day at the Lake | Blaisabelle Childhood Drabble
(Isabelle is 10 and Blaise is 13)
“Noo! Johnny! Stop it! Put me down!!” The giggly and joyful ten year old Isabelle wriggled and kicked against her brother, trying to free herself from his strong hold.
“As you wish!” Johnathon released her at her command, submerging the small brunette into the cool watery abyss. Isabelle was unable to contain her laughter as she made a giant splash, skillfully turning her body over in the water and making sure to leave her eyes open so she could watch the fluttering array of tiny bubbles surround her. She loved this, watching the bubbles as they danced through the water – she found it to be one of the most beautiful things she’d ever seen, and couldn’t help but smile even as the salty water filled her nose from her laughter, and stung her ignorantly opened eyes.
She’d stay under there for awhile, swimming around so as to form even more bubbles, when finally she couldn’t hold her breath any longer and quickly shot up to the surface for some air, coughing a bit from the water that had made it into her lungs. “You okay, Bells?” Benjamin of course came right over to check on her.
“Never been better!” she smiled, letting out one final cough before turning back around to see Colette had suffered the same fate from Archnemesis, only the older girl wasn’t quite as joyful. Archie the Animal proceed to dunk Colette again and again, showing no mercy.
Isabelle shook her head and turned back to Benjamin, ready to hit him with a big splash of water, when she realized he wasn’t there anymore. Looking around, she then noticed him off with Johnathon, probably lecturing him on why it isn’t right to dunk your little sister. Of course.
Isabelle sighed, trying to think of something fun to do. It always ended up like this on their trips to France. Benjamin and Johnathon would get into a fight, Archie would either pick on Colette or find some other unlucky female to terrorize, and Isabelle would be left alone…trying to find something to do, which, normally, involved getting into trouble. Sometimes she’d hang out with Jasper, but his father had decided to take him on a little impromptu hunting trip, causing the young brunette to, once again, be left on her lonesome.
Looking around, Isabelle spotted Auntie Adella and her mom standing at the bank of the lake, chatting and laughing while stealing an occasional glance to see what the kids were up to. Deciding that they were no fun, she looked around some more, her gaze now resting on a quieter member of the LeGume clan, Blaise.
Tilting her head a bit, she smiled, watching the young boy as he sat against a nearby rock, lost in one of his big books. She always liked him better than the other kids. Something about him interested her, always making her want to say hello and tell him anything and everything, which, most of the time, she did. He, on the other hand, would usually ignore her or politely ask her to leave him alone, which of course only made her want to stick around even more.
Finding her target, the young girl began to wade herself out of the water. “Bells! Where are you going?” She heard Ben call out from behind her, but instead of answering she just turned, putting a finger to her lips as if to tell him to quiet down. He was about to object, but that was when John decided to run up and crash him into the water, starting another war between the always-feuding twins. Isabelle just laughed and turned back around, directing her attention back on the lonely dark-haired boy.
Keeping quiet so the boy wouldn’t hear, she slowly crept onto the bank, tip-toeing towards the big rock on which he sat against. She had to bring a hand over her mouth to hold back her giggles, but once she was about a foot away, the girl leaned over so she was right next to his ear before taking a big breath and very loudly greeting, “HI!” causing the boy to jump about a foot in the air from surprise, and Isabelle to fall to the ground in laughter.
Blaise was stunned for a moment, trying to catch his breath, but then realized who it was, his mood changing from shock to annoyance in seconds. “Hi,” he answered back plainly, stealing a quick, unamused glance at the giggly, hyperactive child before sitting down again, directing his attention back to his book.
Isabelle could see his annoyance, and tried to calm down her laughter. Standing up and brushing herself off she tried, “Hey, you don’t have to get all mad. I just wanted to come and see what you were up to… You seemed lonely, an-”
“I’m fine.” Blaise didn’t even look up from his book.
“Well fine, Mr. Grumpy Pants! Be that way.” She stuck her tongue out at him, only to plop herself right down on the space beside him. You’re not getting rid of me that easy… “So! Whatcha reading? Anyhing exciting?”
He sighed, turning the page as he once again refused to look up. “Nothing you’d be interested in, Isabelle.”
“Awww, come on, Blaisiee!” she prodded, nudging him playfully with her shoulder. “Sometimes I get the feeling you think I’m just some dumb little girl with no taste.” She pouted.
Blaise sighed again. “No, I think you’re a hyperactive child with no understanding of personal space who can’t seem to sit still. And don’t call me that. My name’s Blaise.” Finally tearing his eyes away from the book to look at her he asked, “What are you doing over here anyway? Shouldn’t you be off causing trouble with everyone else?”
“And I’m Isabelle. Nice to meet you, Blaisie.” She smirked, but then shrugged her shoulders as she answered nonchalantly, “I got bored.” Blaise just nodded, about to go back to his book when she added, “What about you? What’s your story, Mr. I’m-Just Gonna-Sit-Here-And-Read? I mean, your mom’s a mermaid, right? Shouldn’t you be soaking up all this water and swimming stuff?”
Blaise smirked, turning his head a bit to catch Archie continuing to dunk Colette, and the twins caught up in some gigantic water fight. “Yeahh, you see, that’s not swimming, Isabelle. That’s what I like to call an animalistic fight between children, which, I’m sorry, but I’d rather not be a part of.” Sighing, he turned his attention back down to his book, hoping the girl would leave him alone.
Isabelle giggled. “An animalistic fight between children, huh? That’s… That’s a good one.” She sighed, sitting there quietly for awhile as she turned to watch the other kids splash and play. After awhile though, she got bored, the silence making her uncomfortable. Turning back to Blaise she spoke, “You never answered my question, you know.”
Blaise sighed in annoyance, flipping the page again. “And what question was that, Isabelle?”
“I asked what you were reading.” She replied. “And I know you read some weird stuff, but I’m pretty sure the name of the book isn’t ‘Nothing You’d Be Interested In, Isabelle.’”
He smirked, a small smile hinting at his lips which he quickly brushed off. “It’s a history book, Isabelle… full of an endless amount of boring facts and stories about France that your little brain would neither care about nor remember.” Isabelle’s face fell, his assumption hurting even though she wouldn’t admit it. “Now excuse me. I’d like to continue my reading in peace.” Sighing, he scooted a few inches away from the small girl, thinking, hoping, that she’d soon get bored and run off.
She didn’t. Instead, she scooted even closer to him, her usual smile plastered on her face once more. “Well who’s to say I wouldn’t care?” she retorted stubbornly, crossing her tiny arms across her chest. “Maybe I wanna learn about… about… Henry the V-I-I!” She stated proudly, reading one of the headers.
Blaise shook his head. “It’s Henry the Eighth, and fine, if you want to read it so badly, I’ll lend it to you when I’m done.” He was getting rather annoyed, and just really wanted this girl to stop bothering him.
“I never said I wanted to read it!” She sighed, answering as if that was the craziest idea in the world. Smirking, she corrected, “I want you to read it to me.”
This made Blaise look up, confusion in his bright blue eyes. “And why would you want me to do that?”
Isabelle shrugged, honestly not knowing herself why she wanted him to – it just felt like something nice to do at the moment, and of course the spontaneous girl couldn’t pass up the moment. “It looks interesting,” she finally concluded, leaning over him in order to skim the page. Though it’d be a lot better if there were pictures…
Blaise opened his mouth to object, but then sighed, deciding he might as well do it or else she ight never leave, and at least this way he’d be able to read his book, even if it was out loud. “Fine. I’ll.. I’ll do it..”
Isabelle immediately squealed, wrapping her fragile arms around him in a hug. “Thank you, thank you, thank-“ She was suddenly cut off by the sound of Blaise clearing his throat, looking up to see him staring down at her, his eyebrows furrowed. “Sorry…” she mumbled, removing her arms from his body and folding them in her lap. She waited a few moments, and after realizing he hadn’t started speaking yet, she looked up to find him still staring at her, a strange look in his eyes. “Well go on! I don’t got all day you know,” she smirked, giggling.
Blaise shook his head, snapping out of whatever daze he’d just caught himself in. “Right, er, of course… And it’s, ‘I don’t have all day’ by the way…not whatever that grammatically incorrect thing you just said.” Directing his focus back on the book he began, “So! Henry the Eighth…”
The boy began to read, a little awkwardly at first as he wasn’t particularly used to reading out loud, but after a page or two both of the kids were fully engrossed in the story, Blaise not even noticing when the young brunette beside him rested her tiny head on his shoulder, at first to try and read along, but after a few more pages drifting herself into a peaceful sleep. He continued to read out loud even then, and probably would’ve kept on reading for hours if it wasn’t for the shout from both of their moms, telling them it was time to go.
Blaise sighed, reluctantly looking up from his book when he finally noticed the sleeping girl beside him. He would normally be annoyed at her position, seeing as her head was on his shoulder and her small body pressed up close, but instead his lips spread in a soft smile, suddenly taken away by the sight of her sitting there beside him, a small smile etched on her peaceful expression. He liked this Isabelle, liked the one who was willing to sit still and listen to him read, who wasn’t bugging him every two seconds. He liked the look on her face as she slept, and was almost sad that they had to go.
Not wanting to wake her, he carefully stood up and gently took her into his arms, letting her head fall onto his chest as he carried her back to her mother. Just this once, he thought.
