300 words of winter - #9
Pairing: Blake/Elliot
Prompt: Outside rink (maybe a Winter Classic game?)
---
Elliot is used to having microphones shoved in his face, but it’s different when Blake is standing next to him in a Knights team hoodie and a knitted beanie that he’s been wearing on top of his mask.
They’re at Citi Field, where the Ravens and the Knights will be facing off at the Winter Classic tomorrow and someone on Blake’s team—or his team’s media staff—remembered that he’s friends with Elliot. It’s not usually a big deal, but this kind of game always comes with a media circus.
“It’s pretty special that we get to share this,” he says to the Knights’ rinkside reporter, who greeted Blake like an old friend and Elliot like he was here for a job interview.
Blake’s lips twitch. Yeah, he’s going to chirp Elliot because he’s been throwing around pretty specials like he’s Oprah, but what else is he supposed to say?
The rinkside reporter—Elliot should have made more of an effort to remember her name—turns to Blake.
“Yeah, a few years ago, I was saying to Elliot that I was hoping the Knights would get picked for an outdoor game,” Blake says. “It’s fun that we got picked together.”
Out of the two of them, Blake is definitely more excited for this. He’s not going to sleep tonight. Maybe Elliot is taking this a little too seriously, but the Ravens need the two points.
“As friends, how do you deal with it when the other one's team loses?” the reporter asks.
“Well, generally they won’t let us go home until someone’s won,” Blake says with a shrug. “It’s just part of the game.”
Elliot hides his face. He can’t just burst out laughing.
Blake jostles him because of course he has to draw attention to him now. “We’ll just do what we always do.”
“And what is that?”
Elliot clears his throat. “Loser picks the restaurant, winner pays.”
Except most of the time Elliot cooks them dinner at his apartment, dessert included, and Blake does the dishes. But the Knights’ media folks don’t need to know about that.
