At every turn, the Devil told the truth. If he made an offer, he was true to his word. If he said something was the case, it was. Dubbing someone who doesn’t lie “the Father of Lies” is propaganda and a lie told by a liar.
“The devil never lies so foully, as when he speaks the truth.”
So, when he tells the truth, that’s when he’s lying the most? I’m never so asleep as when I’m completely wide awake. This is called “poisoning the well.” Depending on how it’s framed, it could also be a Kafkatrap. And it’s certainly gaslighting the believer.
The only source of the notion that the Devil is the “Father of Lies” is Jesus’ hissy-fit about not being loved sufficiently.
Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Let because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
A strange, crazy man wandering around the desert claiming to be their god’s son, and haranguing them that if they don’t love him, they don’t love their god and are evil. Let’s try this out and see how this sounds...
I am the child of Superman. If you don’t adore and obey me, you don’t love Superman and are evil. Just sayin’.
Ironically, this is a great demonstration that he’s very much his jealous, narcissistic, possessive, manipulative, abusive dad-self’s son-self.
Jesus challenges them to find him guilty of any kind of sin. A few pages earlier, in the exact same gospel:
So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.
You know, the sin that got the anonymous stranger stoned to death for picking up sticks.
While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.” So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses.
So, Jesus is a liar, just like his dad-self.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.
And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.
Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.
Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.
There’s a saying which is quite apt here: "Accuse the other side of that which you are guilty."
This same god is only regarded as “good” because it says it is - despite being a known, affirmed liar. This same god is only regarded as literally being “love” because it declares itself so. Yet commits genocide of millions of people because they don’t acknowledge and praise him for how loving and awesome he (says he) is.
A narcissist will make sure you know what they want to hear from you about themselves.
Blanche: Oh, there you are, Rose. Good. Honey, I'm borrowing your earrings to go with this new outfit of mine. Tell me I look stunning.
Rose: You look stunning.
Blanche: You're not just saying that.
Rose: No, I'm just repeating it.
The entire bible is about the insecure, narcissistic “Lord” telling people how great it is, wanting to hear that echoed back in worship, then calling people evil and/or destroying them if they don’t. All while this creator of the entire universe fixates completely on Israel, planet Earth.
In order to come to the conclusion that “god” is the good one, and that the Devil is a liar, one needs to already presuppose this is true. And then blindly take its word on everything else. And ignore and/or rationalize all actions ascribed to this character in the story, under the sole basis that it they have to be “good,” because “god.” This is circular.
But actions speak louder than words.
Besides, not only did “god” create evil, but since “god” is all-knowing, no lie can exist that “god” doesn’t want to exist.
Thank goodness it’s just a silly, nonsensical, primitive fable.
