idk i was rereading house of m stuff and dont know if youve ever been asked this but what does 'pain' mean to wanda?
WARPED. pain has a few meanings to wanda. layer one is simply the pain itself. her life has been filled with tragedy. her mother fled her father, gave birth to her and her brother, then fled into the cold to die. her life and soul was forfeited to a demon before she opened her eyes for the first time. her family was murdered, her children were killed and she blamed herself….her memories were taken from her, her body was taken over, she caused a genocide, the world hated it her, even super villains said she was more ‘evil’ than them….she was severely mentally ill, grieving, alone. her life has been ruled by pain.
layer two is her survival of pain. despite every horrific thing that happened around her, one truth always remains – wanda herself. she is a survivor, the child of survivors, from a family of survivors. one of my favorite quotes describing wanda is that “she is too strong to shatter” and it always rings true. there is nothing that can break her.
“listen to me tell you the story of an orphaned mutant with a sordid, violent past”“but here’s a woman who, by the nature of her upbringing and chosen occupation … every day is stressful, chaotic … and after a life lived with lost love, and violence, and drama, what does she do?”“after all she’s been through, revelations like these could shatter a person.”
everyone is constantly EXPECTING her to break. i think people want to be able to blame her for everything, all the time.
layer three of pain for wanda is her ability to inflict it. the pain that she can cause is tenfold what she has survived. the pain she has lived through has created a proclivity to cruelty in her. when she hurts, she wants other people to hurt just as bad. she wants people to pay for the pain they have caused her, therefore the deals her own brand of pain back in spades.
