hélène laughs, high and light, a hand vaguely covering her mouth — some imitation of a playground bully, that childlike cruelty that she and ismahan shared in so readily. she pouts in faux sympathy as her brother storms off, but her hip presses itself against ismahan's — a point of connection, of comfort.

the methods they employed were so often simple, petty, hélène taking joy in the tricks her beloved was able to play with the greatest of ease, but the depth behind it remained. despite their simplicity, such tricks allowed her a power over her brother that she had not held before. long at the mercy of his selfishness, his whims, his need to take and take without regard — ismahan had swiftly put an end to that cycle with the mere wave of her hand, the simple fact of her presence beside her.

happy birthday to my beloved jannah! everyone is legally obligated to follow my best friend on her gorgeous original character, @bewitcheds, and her amazingly written dante, @devilsparda. though i would genuinely be surprised if anyone who followed me didn't already follow them because i don't even go here anymore and i'm pretty sure every follower i've gotten since i came back has been due to them promoting me. my sappy rant about how much i love jannah will continue after this post break.

jannah, i love you so much. you are quite literally the friend i've had the longest in the rpc, a fact which always makes me feel insane whenever i think about it. we met in 2014, when i was sixteen years old, and it's crazy that you've continued to put up for me for literally eleven years. you're one of very, very few people who i feel completely comfortable with. a lot of shit can happen in eleven years and a lot of shit DID happen in eleven years, but you've consistently been by my side. no matter how long we go without talking whenever life gets in the way, i always feel 100% comfortable jumping back into talking to you like no time passed at all. you're one of the kindest, funniest, most understanding, most entertaining people i have ever had the pleasure of meeting and i truly am so, so lucky to have you in my life and be able to call you a friend.

there has quite literally never been a time where i've ever felt any sort of insecurity in my friendship with you and considering how annoyingly anxious i am at all times that truly is an insane feat. that's just yet another testament to how amazing you are and what a great friend you are. it's obvious by how many people freaked the fuck out when you came back to the rpc — you are just genuinely such a joy to be around. and on top of that, i genuinely do feel like being your friend has been just a morally beneficial experience for me, LMAO. your confidence inspires me to stand up for myself and i'm just endlessly impressed by how little you're willing to take peoples' shit. that's always been a skill i've been lacking in and i truly believe that being around you has helped me to be able to be myself more and be more willing to create boundaries for myself. it really is so crazy thinking about how much we've changed since the days of writing lost boys in the ouat rpc. it really does make me so happy to see how well we're doing now (even if we're both grossly overworked) and i'm just! so grateful that i've gotten the chance to grow alongside you these past eleven years.

i hope your birthday is as wonderful you are. that's a high bar to meet, because you're pretty fucking wonderful, but that's even more reason why you deserve it. you deserve nothing but the best and, for my part, i'm gonna be right here making sure you get it. i would die for you but more importantly i would live for you. Ankle crossed over his knee, leaning back, the only restraint that keeps him from outright tormenting Ismahan beyond the irritant nature of his body language is the fact that despite certain polarities of their behavior they remain so painfully alike — antithetical to the modern processes of falsehood and decorum, bordering a pair of ancient curmudgeons. He can respect that. What clings remnant to the edges of Ismahan is as old and familiar as Anderson himself.

Plus, he likes her cat. He couldn't be sure that Jinx felt the same. " — I'm getting bored of being part of mankind," Andy quips to no-one in particular. It's not a good lie, coming from him, but it's an easy one to let slip, breaking up the lull as he tries to lure Jinx to his fingertips.

SHE CASTS HER GAZE UPON HIM like a judgement extracted from the dregs of a diviner’s bowl. there is, in the cadence of his stride, something too known that coils beneath her skin like smoke beneath stone, setting alight the ancient sigils singed into her nerves. he does not move wrongly, nor rightly, only familiarly with the indifference of a godless cherub, molting wings in dust-laden sunlight, & that is the truest offence. he reclines into her space with that same old pococurante sprawl, & it is not the posture itself but the memory it disinters that sets her teeth on edge, like a buried hex come back to gnaw its way through dirt.

she straightens slightly ( instinctively ) as anderson extends his hand towards jinx, the motion needling at her composure like an itch beneath silk. yet jinx, blessedly inscrutable to strangers, lets the gesture wither in the air, denying it the dignity of reception. the tension unspools & pride swells in the cavity of her chest. finally, you good-for-nothing creature.

❛ are you now? ❜ she says, not so much as asking as discarding his sentiment. ismahan has already relegated his thoughts to the graveyard of irrelevant utterances, the kind that bloom briefly in the throat before being buried beneath the monolithic shadow of her own interiority. ❛ well, no one’s asking you to be, and it doesn’t matter anyway because i’m not. i can entertain myself with anything. ❜

THE SILENCE SPLINTERS UNASSUREDLY. ismahan surveys them with a pageantry of incredulity, brief but cutting. the moment limps toward coherence, but she intercepts it, twisting their disorientation into an advantage. ❛     magic isn't real. ❜   it sheds itself from her mouth as if already tired of being shaped, drained of conviction. there is no intensity in them — no fervour. just the hollowed-out aftertaste of a better sentence. it’s only a husk of suggestion, the tone of an idle correction administered to an ignorant child. not refuted, only dismissed, humiliated in its very articulation.

her attention wavers, fraying at the edges. the weight of the moment passes through her like mist. her eyes shift, slick with the glimmer of something more pressing — an irritation made lacquer. ❛     i was wondering what was keeping him. ❜   the sentence barely bothers to seat itself before another spills in, coarser, crystallised into command. ❛ stop feeding him. he’s going to get fat. ❜ there’s an acridity in her tone, but it is less concern & more a flare of possessiveness, something primal curling under the coolness of her words. she does not name the feeling; would never give it the courtesy of recognition. but it seethes within her, an inconvenient knot of irritation, in the part of her that bristles when her rituals are disrupted.

her gaze cuts downward, glacial & sharp, settling on jinx, who weaves between the interstice of her stance with all the insolence of a creature perfectly secure in his place, heedless of the latent voltage in her glare. she extricates herself from his mindless trajectory. her step is not a retreat, more of a refusal for his betrayal but jinx, the insouciant creature that he is, persists, slinking back in between her legs.

their head thrums. it brings a dizziness they can never quite swallow, the flashing in front of their eyes like an old screen, dented and flickering. the rhythm of their pulse in their ears feels like waves of static washing over them, so loud they can barely hear their own thoughts. not that their thoughts are often just their own, lately. v hasn't known silence in so long. the persistent ringing in their ears, at least, is growing slowly weaker. their hands, wrapped around the pistol like a lifeline, are still trembling.

"wh— dunno, i ..." they squint against the flourescent light, against the sharp pain in their temple, and not even the god damn expensive kiroshi optics can fix the way everything vibrates slightly. even ismahan, whom they now eye with renewed suspicion. confusion. v's raspy voice struggles to start, breaking even as she pushes through it. it jumps in her throat, tripping over itself, while she desperately clings to composure til her knuckles turn white.
