Until today, the benefit was that you got no ads if you had premium. The problem now is that they are playing their videos using Hulu, and if you don't have a subscription to Hulu, you get ads.

Eh, it wouldn't be much worse than things that have already been done to the roster between games (three completely unique characters have been dropped as well as two semi-clones and three full clones, with only Mewtwo and Doc coming back later on). Besides, they could just have the Falco alts for Fox keep Falco's gameplay differences. In the same way, give Mario a couple of Dr. Mario alts, which have the Dr. Tornado instead of FLUDD and whatnot. If Wario could have 12 alts in Brawl and Little Mac could have 16 in SSB4, there's no reason why characters with alternate character skins couldn't have more alts than usual.

Funny thing is, Dark Pit from KI:U was actually inspired by the popularity of the black Pit costume from Brawl. He was fine as his own character in Uprising, a nice take on the evil-doppelganger bullshit, but he didn't need to be anything more than a Pit costume in Smash.
