Statue of Sergeant Blandan in Boufarik, Algeria
French vintage postcard
Rue Sergent Blandan.
What would “rue Sergent Blandan” be without its majestic statue? It was built in 1887 to pay tribute to the Caporal Blandan who fought to his death. It was first exhibited in Bourafik (Algeria) and was then removed in Nancy during the independence war of Algeria. It now overlooks the intersection the tramway station, and welcomes hundreds of students which come every morning to study in the Artem campus.
If you hover around the Blandan Statue, you will see a tiny butchery full of appetizing and savory meals. As a student or just someone with a short lunchtime, you will found great products, soups, charcuterie and buffet for a very good price. During the winter especially, the owner prepares a delightful soup with seasonal vegetables: yummy !
Walking through Rue du Sergent Blandan, meet Bonidé. This fast food opened up this September and is already adopted by the neighborhood. Tasty and nice, ARTEM’s king of burger and fries has everything to abduct our hearts... except maybe the price (a little high for students) and their impressive performance in being extremely slow. If you really need a burger right now, go try Bonidé, you will not regret it.
Cross over the street bordering the Artem glass-hall, you can find the Japanese restaurant Maison Kanazawa. There, you can choose a nutritious meal, which will carry you over to the calm and mysterious Japan. Bento, katsudon or noodles? Never mind, each of them are tasty and carefully prepared by the owner, who happens to not only be a graphic artist but also a former student from ENSAD.
Now pass under the wonderful and enlighted roof of Artem skylight next to the Art School, and you will arrive in a hushed and green little park. During spring time, flowers are starting to flourish and sun is making this landscape amazingly welcoming. Wooden chairs and tables sprinkle this vegetative cover, and some small pools brings fresh air to the whole campus.
