Charlotte set the shotglass down with a grimace.

"I thought Sinthe was illegal because of how deadly it is," said Blathine.

"It's like alcohol or Avidyan mushrooms," said Charlotte. "It can ruin people's lives, but one drink won't make me dissolve!" She paused, biting her lip. "Probably!"

"I notice you're not disputing the illegal part," said Blathine.

Charlotte placed her Kamera into Blathine's hands. "Hold onto Monsieur Verite. You know how to use him, oui?"

Blathine nodded.

Charlotte put her hat and jacket beside her, on the ledge of the Fountain of Lucine. She swung around to dip her legs in.

"Okie-dokie! Now, this next part's important, okay?" she said, ignoring the shouts of passing bystanders. "If this works, I'm going to get possessed by angry water spirits. Your job is to take notes on whatever weird things I say. And naturally, take as many photos as you can!"

"Shouldn't you take your monocle off, too?" said Blathine, but Charlotte had already dived into the Fountain.
