What would Eclipse do if we got hurt really bad while protecting him? Let’s say there’s some kind of conflict happening on the planet, and Eclipse told us not to go out and stay somewhere safe, but we see him getting cornered and an enemy coming in behind him, so we rush to save him, but pay the price for it. Would he be upset; angry, sad, worried? Or would he be kind of impressed, like wow the human just risked their life for me. Sorry that’s kinda long, I just thought of this while at work and just had to type it out real quick lol
I was gonna answer this as a normal ask but then I remembered I actually wrote a drabble for this months ago lol. Sooooo have a drabble. It's not great but eh.
Warnings for blood and injury.
He watched it happen as if in slow-motion. You were there so suddenly, without warning, appearing in his peripheral before he could even think to shout out a warning. The yell of his name in your voice. The bright flash of a plasma rifle, the way your body was thrown backwards, catching the blast that was meant to end his life.
He watched you fall like a puppet whose strings had been cut, left unsupported as you dropped to the ground with a sharply cut-off cry of pain.
He'd told you to stay back. The battlefield was no place for a little human with no combat experience. Fighting off invaders was something he was used to, not you. He should never have allowed you to accompany him when the call for help came in, he should've made you stay behind on the Capital Ship where it was safe.
But no, you insisted. “I can offer moral support!” you'd teased with a bright grin you knew he was weak for in an attempt to break his resolve. “Safely from the sidelines! You won't have to worry about me.” You knew he already had trouble denying your insatiable curiosity, often giving in despite the repeated warnings of his advisors to not tell and show you too much of their home and way of life.
Eclipse knew he shouldn't, they'd all learned the hard way not to trust outsiders at the cost of many lives, but how could he resist when you looked at him the way you so often did? And then you'd pleaded with him in his own tongue, and even though you'd butchered most of the words with your human accent Eclipse couldn't fight back his own amusement. His siblings had been trying to teach you at your request, your wish to learn in the hopes it would make it easier to earn the trust of the people. Their language wasn't an easy one for outsiders to pick up, but still you were determined. You worked so hard, tried your very best and it was nothing short of commendable.
And so he'd said yes.
He'd trusted you to keep yourself safely out of harm's way – just like you'd promised him – and now look at what had happened. Despite it all you had jumped in to save his life at the risk of your own and in the end, the only one he could truly blame for you getting hurt... was himself.
With a roar Eclipse turned on your attacker, rifle in hand and squeezed the trigger, blasts of blinding plasma bursting out of the barrel to slam into the body of the one who had shot you. He kept the trigger pressed until the weapon in his hands turned too hot to the touch, until his enemy was reduced to nothing but a smoking pile of atoms on the ground before he threw it aside, not caring where it landed.
He was at your curled up side in an instant, hands shaking when he reached out for you and oh so carefully gripped your shoulder to roll you onto your back. Smoke billowed from the burned edges of your shirt, framing the blackened flesh of your shoulder as bright red blood oozed from the grisly wound, soaking in the ground beneath. It was deep and it was bad. Very bad.
“Why did you do that?” he snapped as he unclasped his cloak with hurried movements. “You promised you'd stay back!”
“O-oops?” you wheezed and despite the clear pain you were in, you raised a shaky thumbs up and grinned. “Worth it t-though.”
“Stubborn.” Eclipse hissed as he carefully wrapped the thick, velvet-like material around your smaller body, uncaring of the blood that soaked into the expensive fabric. Balling up one corner he pressed it firmly down onto the blistering wound, ignoring your pained cry as he grabbed your opposite hand and guided you to keep pressure on it. “Are all humans like that or is it just you?”
You didn't give him an answer right away and he wasn't expecting one, listening to you biting back a whimper as he moved his hands under you and as gently as he could, lifted you off the ground.
“B-both?” you wheezed as he rose to his feet with you cradled against his chest, safely in his arms. “Stubborn is humanity's middle name, but...”
Eclipse glanced down, brows lowering in a soft look of growing concern as you pressed your face against his shoulder and squeezed your eyes shut. Wetness gathered along your lashes, your trembling lips parted as you took ragged breaths.
“... it's k-kinda my specialty too... Saved you.”
Teeth grit Eclipse turned on his heel and hurriedly marched back to the scouting ship they'd used to get here. Behind him the battle raged on but he knew his men were capable enough to finish the invaders without him and leave no prisoners. He wouldn't accept a different outcome.
“You did.”
You were shaking in his arms, he could feel the tremors shoot through your smaller frame even through the thick fabric of the cloak you were bundled in.
You weren't going to die. He wouldn't allow it. In that sense he was stubborn too. You'd disobeyed his clear orders, something he wouldn't tolerate under most circumstances... but you had done it to save his life. You. A stranger. An outsider.
An alien.
You'd saved him, and now he was going to save you.
Based off the spin-off where we get to smooch Eclipse, what would Eclipse be looking for in a partner? Like what would make us stand out to him?
Treat him like a person.
Which would be quite the feat, not only because he's the alien to us, he's their leader. And it's obvious that he's powerful. We would see the way other nebuterrans treat him, as answered in that one ask, so the most logical and safest thing for us to do would be to treat him with just as much respect and reverence and yes, also fear because we are on his turf and at his mercy and we know it.
It's what Eclipse would expect from us, from someone who doesn't belong here and is only still alive because he didn't perceive us as an immediate threat.
But if we were to try and see beyond the title he holds and show interest in him as a person, take the time to converse with him and try to get to know him... that's not something he would expect from us.
And if we were to also take note of the strain he's under, the stress of responsibility and show concern for his well being... that would definitely make him start to see us in a different light.
After all, why should we care? We're not nebuterran, all we should be concerned about is finding a way home and not worry about the fate of a different species we are not a part of.
And yet here we are, fretting over his well being, emotionally, physically, mentally.
We show interest in him and we're curious, and while it would rouse his suspicion at first and make him keep a professional distance, once it becomes clear that no, we're not pretending or trying to get him to lower his guard for selfish gains but instead we genuinely just want to get to know him better... it's gonna boggle his mind.
We're definitely gonna be on his mind a lot after that. It will make him interested in us. The little human so far from home... maybe there is more to us after all, way more than he initially thought at first glance.
How would your DM boys feel about a reader who had superpowers? Let’s say like telepathy or telekinesis, maybe even healing powers. I’m assuming it would probably take them a lot longer to trust us if we did lol
Absolutely but it would also heavily depend on the kind of superpower I guess. Obviously some superpowers are more harmful than others and it depends on what Eclipse would consider to be more of a threat. What with how suspicious he is of strangers, even something as telepathy would make him think twice before putting even a small amount of trust in you.
Healing powers though? That would very quickly bump you up to VIP status!
Ahh another awesome chapter of dark matter!! I absolutely loved it😄
When Sun was talking about eating that rare fruit growing up, I was wondering what their childhood was like? Like what kinds of things did they and eclipse like to do as kids, when they weren’t busy learning lol
Thank yooouuuu, so happy you liked the chapter! Hope it was worth the long wait lol.
So Eclipse's childhood was different compared to Sun and Moon. Not only is he like 10 years older than Sun (and Moon is even younger), he unfortunately wasn't allowed as much free time as them growing up because of him being picked as their future leader from the moment he was born.
So a lot of his time from a young age forward was spent with tutors, studying and learning anything and everything from combat and warfare, diplomacy, space navigation, also attending lots of meetings to gain experience etc etc etc.
Still, that doesn't mean he didn't get to spent time with his siblings but it was more limited than he would've liked.
Sun and Moon had a more relaxed time growing up, without as much pressure placed upon their shoulders, though they were still given a very good education. They were still expected to support their brother so choices were made for them in regards to their profession, based on what they excelled at - techy stuff for Sun, he's an engineer (which luckily for him is something he greatly enjoys) and Moon became an tactician with an expertise in security and defense - definitely not his own choice, his interests lay elsewhere.
But yeah they had more free time growing up and always spent it together. Eclipse joined them when he could (and sometimes snuck away from his teachers to steal time with his siblings lol). A favorite past time for all three was swimming, going out into the woods and attending the many feasts and festivals nebuterrans are so fond of but really, just getting to spent time together was the most important thing, away from the prying eyes of their teachers and advisors.
All in all, neither of them had unhappy childhoods but at the same time - and this goes for Eclipse in particular - there were times they wished things could've been different.
I’m not sure if you’ve answered this or not, but how would your alien boys typically give affection? To each other or, if it’s not too spoilery, to the reader?
Physical affection is quite normal in nebuterran society and they're more open with it than we humans are. It's very normal to hold hands or hug friends and family on a regular basis in public and it's something Sun, Moon and Eclipse can be often seen doing. It's a way for them to show that they care about each other, that they're important to them.
Cuddling up and nuzzling is a bit more... intimate I guess (some cat inspiration here lol), reserved for family members and partners. Nuzzling into another one's neck or shoulder is seen as something quite intimate, comparable to kissing (though kissing mouth-on-mouth is not something they do back home, that's a human thing). Pressing foreheads against each other is also a sign of affection, especially when it's combined with cradling one's face in their hands and especially if it lasts a while. Just... reveling in each other's presence, enjoying the close proximity, close enough that the other person is the only one they see when they open their eyes.
And forehead kisses? Oh boy oh boy. That's like the epitome of showing they truly care about someone with all their heart.
As for the reader, Sun and Moon would (eventually) do the same things. Right now Y/N is the only friend they have and the only one they can rely on, so physical affection would be THE way for them to show the reader how much it means to them. Especially while language is still an issue. Y/N better get used to hugs and touch.
And in return, when the time is right, Y/N could show them how humans give affection and show love, so you might get to make out with them anyway and teach them how to kiss lol.
How would the DM boys feel about a reader who’s a hunter? I feel like they would probably find it a little concerning and gross, considering they don’t eat meat. But at the same time though, would they be interested in the ways people make it into a sport or just friendly competitions, like archery shoots with animal targets?
They'd be more concerned and disturbed about hunting/shooting animals for sport, rather than hunting as a necessity for food.
Even if they themselves as a species don't eat meat or hunt, they know that it's different for other species. The boys don't have to like us eating meat in order to accept that we do eat it, because we're not nebuterran, we're human and have different needs and customs.
As for hunting for sport, so long as the targets themselves aren't live animals, it's fine. No problem. Sun and Moon might even want to give archery a try. But yeah, killing animals because someone wants a big set of antlers on their wall or a rug on their floor, even if they don't intent to waste anything, the boys would find that a much more difficult pill to swallow. Also because back home they have such a different relationship with the wildlife. Most wild animals don't fear nebuterrans getting close
I'm not a hunter myself, have never even touched a weapon so I don't really know a lot about it all, which is why reader isn't a hunter in my eyes lol.
