that one time i discussed with my friend that in among us society, there probably comes a time you have too many people for every color to have a name. and even then, people would probably get it wrong half the time.
so i said: "how long until people start using their exact hex codes as a name?"
and then it hit me. imagine going by whatever you color is called and then whenever your mom is mad at you, she calls you your hex code.
"#DDD618 GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!"
"#FEFCFF HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO TELL YOU TO DO THE DISHES?!"
since y'all liked my lil yap i did about yellow, i decided to do a headcanon post for other roda characters, starting with those that are most relevant to victory spoils (because i simply have them most figured out) to those i have least info/opinions on.
doing pink and purple only today cuz they're the main characters so may the holy yap commence.
PURPLE
-pronouns: she/her
-age (the beginning of og/alt/vs): 23
-role/job: armorer / host
-backstory/personality:
purple's general deal is that she grew up in what is, in every definition of that word, a mafia. yes you heard it here first, indigo didn't get infected during mira breakout, his little organization existed for decades now. and when i say little, i mean more in a sense of like, lowkey and illegal. they're far from little and the goverment is very aware of their existence. they are currently in the state of an uneasy alliance, a stalemate that has lasted for years with occasional incidents. and while the hq is waiting for any opportunity to catch indigo slipping, indigo is expanding his empire - trying spread his roots everywhere, in the transport, the economy, medical system, slowly infiltrating the key components of society from the inside.
and don't get me wrong, indigo definitely has people in the goverment as well. the big idea is that, as long as impostors as a minority stick together and work towards one goal, they are harder to hunt down. so a lot of them find some sort of protection and support under his wing.
one important thing to note about purple that affects her personality is that she was, for 2 decades of her life, a crew living among impostors. and not only that, she is indigo's daughter, so expectations of what she should've been are all that higher. people's first reaction is to underestimate her as such, not really seeing her as worth of someone as powerful as indigo.
she couldn't change what she was born as, but she did spend her life overcompensating for her shortcomings, in multiple ways. she learned how to take people with natural advantage over her in combat and became an armory apprentice as young as 15 years old and made her way into becoming an armorer when she turned 17. even after leaving the mafia, she still is one on skeld.
shortly after the mission that ended up with purple's best friend dead and her injured and captured, she got forcefully sent away to polus by indigo. though she herself thinks that's just another result of him being disappointed in her, it was actually for her safety - and because indigo's enemies are very aware they can only harm him through her. so he simply takes her out of the game and lets her blame him.
purple is 23 at the time of her infection (4 years after being sent away, aprox.) and she doesn't wanna see indigo again, but she ESPECIALLY doesn't wanna be a liability again, and the idea of getting captured and him having to bail her out AGAIN is literally a fate worse than death to her. so that leads to what we see in the series, her trying to murder everyone on skeld just so she doesn't get taken back to mira.
pink just randomly jumps in on the murder spree, which is insanely funny to me.
growing up in a mafia had interesting effects on her personality, especially her sense of morality. while absolutely skewed, she does have a moral compass that, albeit, only makes sense to her. loyalty and integrity are big to her, for obvious reasons (results of being raised by a mafia boss). she is a woman of her word and for what's worth, wouldn't betray/go back on a promise, though she is perfectly fine with blowing brains out to get what she wants.
behind all that grit, she doesn't wanna be perceived as weak or inferior ever again, and that does stop her from forming any meaningful interpersonal relationships time and time again. she despises happy-go-lucky people that just have things pan out well for them. she hates how they can afford to be naive, because truth be told, she's jealous. this is a big part of the reason why lime's friendliness was always forced upon purple (he can't read the room).
-design:
purple is 164cm tall (yes my american fellows, you will have to figure it out yourself) east asian woman with a rectangular, muscular build. she has brown monolids and a dark, straight wolfcut she mostly wears in half-up, half-down ponytail. she likes wearing sleeveless shirts, tank tops, turtle necks, and in general everything that makes her look larger and more intimidating. she has multiple scars from getting into trouble in missions, mostly notably the one on her biceps, front to back, from getting grazed by a bullet. the scar damaged her tattoo, ruining it. she doesn't really wear jewelry or makeup, though she probably would secretly wear anything you gifted her. she has long fingers and short nails and wears black nailpolish but doesn't care enough to redo it, so it's chipped most of the time.
-random quirks:
she actually collects vintage weapons. keep in mind, vintage to her isn't the same as vintage to us. to her a vintage is probably a first laser gun or something like that.
her best friend that died tragically was actually a bit more than a friend - or well, could've been, if purple wasn't emotionally handicapped. oh, and that tattoo i mentioned? guess who the artist of that was.
purple does hear ghosts of crewmates, but the way that it's potrayed in vs is a bit different and perhaps spookier... you'll see.
she is one of those psychos that enjoy waking up every morning at 5am and going for a run. she doesn't have to think about things when exercising, so it is her getaway from everything.
PINK
-pronouns: they/she (they rolled a dice when picking them)
-age (beginning of og/alt/vs): 26 (...bodily. genuinely fuck knows)
-role/job: engineer / viper
-backstory/personality:
the fun part about being a colony of parasites that just assembled one day is that you don't get a traumatic backstory - or do you? truth be told, surviving in a hostile environment as an alien that has to keep undercover is HARD. like sure, humans get to be a little cheeky and philosophical about their morality and say "hey, maybe not all impostors are bad" and then get a standing ovation for saying that as if they just solved all world's problems. you DON'T. everyone and everything is a threat. you saying "not all crewmates are bad, maybe i can just be myself" will get you killed. and despite how it may seem from the series, pink isn't particularly violent. she is violence-apathetic. as in, will do it for fun, never would've done it if purple didn't start killing first.
a part of the reason for this is that they are simply a predator - and predators, relying on survival based on their ability to hunt, never risk unnecessary injury. this means not picking fights they can avoid.
to them, the peak of enjoyment in life is eating junk food, wearing comfy clothes, listening to music, vent dwelling and doing literally anything pleasurable (do not, i repeat, do not present them with any kind of addictive substances, they will get addicted immediately). there's not much for natural impostors to worry about other immediate pleasure, and there's a scientific explanation behind it - they weren't meant to have long life cycles. again, hostile environment conditions you like that. so instead, they're simply built to enjoy their short lives while they can.
in a way, you can say this makes them impulsive, as they mostly rely on their natural instincts and satisfying their needs at any cost necessary.
this is where purple's burning ambition meets pink's unapologetic hedonism. they should hate each other - this is why i love them. (i'm getting off-topic here)
whereas purple is a fake dgafer, pink is a real dgafer and genuinely needs human emotions/relationships explained to them like a child in kindergarten. again, they would not survive if they cared too much and their species was selected for apathy by evolution.
that said they do have a tendency to mimic emotions when needed. such as when they figure out that breaking down crying gets them out of trouble, they start sobbing everytime any conflict arises.
other than that, they also have an innate ability to just seem cute and innocent. like yes, sure, they eat packaged, frozen food, but have you considered they can't be an impostor because they look at you like this:
all of this goes to say that a lot of their personality is in fact protective mechanisms and they find it hard to trust people, tho they keep people at the distance in a different way than purple does.
they kinda struggle with boundaries and they really only understand that if they don't respect other people, they will leave, so they respect them out of personal gain. one of the main themes of vs is learning to love, understand and respect someone fundamentally different than you, after all, so that is the character arc she goes through.
-design:
pink is 169cm tall white person with a pear build. she mostly keeps her slightly wavy dirty blonde her in a messy bun. she's doe-eyed, with green eyes, chubby cheeks and overall chubby build, soft jawline and tall forehead. she does wear gay ass earrings (usually of sweets or fruit) but frequently has to take them off for work because that's a disaster waiting to happen. she wears comfy clothes, hoodies, sweatpants and cargo pants and basically anything that she finds out feels like a sensory heaven/being hugged by a cloud. she would get more piercings, but ultimately knows with her line of work, taking them off all the time would be a hassle.
-random quirks:
they LOATHE doctors. like you cannot explain to their hedonist self that you are doing something uncomfortable to them to help them. like no, if sensation is bad, they would rather croak and die than experience that.
due to her biology, she mostly sleeps for pleasure tho she can go days without it.
she loves tight spaces - if i fits i sits.
they tried to learn to cook but got impatient and ate the ingredients.
(victory spoils) one of indigo's first reactions to pink is "at least she's an impostor". that's a great thing to say, thank you for your input indigo. 😬 father is fathering ig.
all of this makes more sense when i tell you they're technically based on a cat.
edit: i can't believe i forgot to write this originally, but pink is a viper! just doesn't use it ever unless necessary (so like, otherwise restrained) because it's very uncomfortable as you can imagine. but it does explain how they can eat pretty much anything without any consequences.
~UNHINGED, TOTALLY SERIOUS GLITCHY THEORY BY YOURS TRULY~
SO HEAR ME OUT-
you know how all the space beans are genderless, non-human, funny alien things?? and ppl have been speculating, especially in purple's case, that there is no other parent, they just always only had one.
and the said parent also had one parent and so on?
well. it got me wondering - how do space beans have children? but then i realized the answer was right there the whole time
GLITCHY WAS SOLD TO YELLOW BY INNERSLOTH FOR 3 DOLLA?????
ayy we got 1!!!they will most certainly be ending up in the blender too and the real ones know that already. :D as of rn tho, i left it unchecked.
-anyway, i just love how much of a creature pink is. they fit both the absolutely terrifying, capable, force to be reckoned with description, as much as they fit the "wasn't socialized enough as a puppy" description of an 'other' being trying to fit into a society.
-i love how they are engi AND an impostor. it makes a lot of sense impostors would still have their jobs before being infected, or even upon first infiltrating (like pink). and gosh they seem to love it! they are such a vent dweller, or at least that's my headcanon. they have the cat mentality - if i fits, i sits! :D
-one thing i noticed is that i found rly endearing is that even at the beginning of the story, both blue (alternate) and glitchy (og) already knew distracting pink with food would work. this implies they've already been known for their antics before even being revealed as an impostor, and that's just so silly to me. gotta wonder what crazy shit they've done for food that got them this reputation so early on.
-that said, i do have a headcanon that they would do mukbangs if they discovered it was a thing. i picture them streaming with a horrible microphone, headphones stolen out of comms, ducked away in a vent. every 5 minutes or so, there's gun shots and terrifying screams in the background, none of which they acknowledge. there's a whole discourse in all of their live chats about whether or not their content is satire.
-i do feel like a lot of people are wrong and mean about them - especially when they reduce them to a dumbass. i mean, let's be for real, pink was rarely dumb when it comes to personal interests. they are rather calculated, but don't extend their energy (or their braincells) when they don't think it matters.
that said, i feel like their intelligence is rather... disproportionate. on one hand, they are a good impostor. i mean they haven't gotten themselves caught for god knows how long before purple's infection. they are good at being stealthy, sneaky, they get rather creative in fights and they discovered a way to dead sabo. i wouldn't say any of this would've happened if they were just plain stupid. on the other hand, they have a heard time reigning in their instincts and struggle with interpersonal relationships - while it is a mask they wear, they really don't understand crewmates. they struggle to understand to purple's feelings (and purple being generally resigned isn't helping), they struggle to understand the concept of a family, they struggle to understand why people would bother to do anything that doesn't bring them immediate pleasure. which is all to say - they aren't dumb, but they are a parasite trying to act like a person and it shows. reducing them to just dumb, ignores the fact intelligence is multi-dimensional and, when you come down to it, really subjective. people need to stop ignoring their strengths on the account of their weaknesses.
-i do need to see them get bullied, or well, humbled more in the series.
HEY TUMBLR, i just posted a commentary video on the newest episode of the interviewed. so if you're interested, it would really mean a lot to me if you gave it some support!!!
i don't talk about myself on this app at all i realize and i don't like the general public being informed of my issues (because it is essentially an act of painting a target on myself and inviting y'all to kick me) and truthfully i never felt a need for community, so that has never been an issue before.
but i gotta say, i hate how i never perfectly fit anywhere. i am not trans and i am not cis, i reject both labels, tho i realize this might be the first time you hear that from me. this is not negotiable and i ask you nicely not to try to convince me i am "trans enough", please, spare me.
as of recently, i also realized that while i am well-versed in voidpunk (having a voidsona myself and that also being the only sona i have), i am not truly alterhuman. or well, not compared to other alterhumans. i don't deeply believe this - it's not that important for me or my identity. it's not a core feature, it's just something i do.
so now on top of the fact i fucking suck at being human, i also apparently fucking suck at NOT being human. i am not fully comfortable with any of these labels.
and you know, other than being a special fucking snowflake, i am not much of... anything, really. i could spend the rest of my life being a cis woman, marry a man, be called she/her and a human my entire existence, and that wouldn't really suck for me? yes, i am happier this way, but i am not particularly unhappy just being what society wants me to. i don't care. and that sucks. because i will spend my life bouncing back and forth like a volleyball just going "huh, i don't relate to that" on each end of the net. just awkwardly nodding my head when people with real problems and facing real backlash talk. they expect me to relate to them. but i don't.
i relate to no one. i am fully alone in this world. my suffering isn't unique, it's just... "uniquely mild" or so to put it.
