Hiruzen felt it would be safer for Naruto, the kyuubi and the village that way. He would've been in danger if it was known that he was Minatos son. It would've made him a target for his father's enemies. If they came for him, there would likely have been collateral damage in the village itself. So it was best to conceal everything about Narutos birth and his parentage.
