Bleach Chapters 622 and 623 Review

The Gotei 13 reacts to Aizen’s return as he demonstrates his power.

*Easter traveling kept me from doing a review last week, but luckily 622 and 623 feel like one big chapter so a joint review will be easy.

We pick up right where we left off in 621. Everybody’s shocked by Aizen coming to save the day and he politely compliments her promotion to lieutenant, glossing over the fact that the last time they saw each other he was ripping the Hogyoku  from her chest. Before things can devolve any further, Shunsui shows up to defuse the situation. He admits that they’re going to need Aizen’s power and they react exactly how you’d think they would. Among the hilariously petty responses, we have Yumichika and Ikkaku expressing their disapproval and Soi Fon telling him he has no shame. Shunsui, rightfully, doesn’t give a shit and tells them there’s worse things than fighting evil with evil.

Aizen agrees and wants his restraints removed. Shunsui patiently reminds him that he doesn’t have the authority to lift the seals, but notes that the great Sosuke Aizen probably won’t be weighed down be such an obstacle. Aizen admits that he doesn’t have that kind of power at the moment. Shunsui, continuing to demonstrate why he’s Captain-Commander, tells Aizen that he can either fight from his chair or get devoured by mini-Yhwachs. Right on cue a swarm of them descend from the sky and as Aizen prepares to fight back a very panicked Shunsui commands the rest of the Gotei 13 to seek shelter in the lab. Aizen unleashes a massive kido spell that envelops himself along with the mini-Yhwachs.

Back in the lab Byakuya, who until this point has been silent, reminds Shunsui that enlisting Aizen is an insult to all of them. Shunsui’s patience understandably appears to be wearing thin and tells Byakuya he can kick his ass after they’ve protected the Seireitei. They leave the lab and examine the aftermath of Aizen’s attack and Urahara observes that Aizen has probably gotten stronger since his fight with Ichigo, which is insane to think about.Aizen compliments his chair, which remains unscratched even after bearing the full brunt of his Kurohitsugi. Renji makes the connection that Aizen’s attack doubled as an attempt to free himself, but before he can think about it Soi Fon unleashes her bankai again. She plans on destroying the veil above them once and for all but Aizen tells her it isn’t necessary. The power of his Kurohitsugi left cracks in the veil and he can finish the job by applying pressure on it with his reiatsu. The immense pressure from Aizen’s reiatsu is messing with the gate the Gotei 13 is planning on using to get the Soul Palace and Rukia tells him to stop. Aizen isn’t concerned with the gate: He’ll simply bring the Soul Palace to them by breaking the barrier with his reiatsu. He begins amplifying his reiatsu, much to everyone’s concern except Shunsui’s. Aizen goes from smug to shocked and it’s a sight to see.

Shunsui explains that while the restrains can’t completely eliminate Aizen’s reiatsu, they’re able to keep it suppressed and close to him. It’s because of technology created by none other than Mayuri, who shows up to elaborate further. All living things have flowing reiatsu and since Aizen is immortal there was no point in trying to develop anything that could eliminate it altogether, so instead Mayuri successfully focused on restraining it instead. Mayuri now has total control over the amount of reiatsu that Aizen can release at any given time He also casually drops the bomb that there are other immortal criminals imprisoned in Muken, but whether that development is explored further remains to be seen. He calls Aizen naive for thinking that he’d be able to overpower his restraints, and refuses to let Aizen go through with his plan of shooting down the Soul Palace because it would essentially be insulting to him. Aizen attempts to goad Mayuri into letting him release the maximum amount of reiatsu but is attacked before Mayuri can respond.

The attacker turns out to be NaNaNa, whose designation is finally revealed to be “The Underbelly,” which evidently allows him to see the weak points in his opponents. It’s a cool ability, but one that would probably be cooler if it wasn’t attached to NaNaNa. He leads a full-on assault on Aizen, who seems more bored by it than anything. The rest of the remaining Sternritters appear behind NaNaNa and they’re a sorry-looking bunch. An exasperated Shunsui wonders about the status of the gate and Nanao tells him the reiatsu has scattered and they’re back to square one, which is like the tenth time that’s happened since the gate was revealed in the first place. Shunsui enlists the help of Urahara to stabilize the gate, who obliges as a few dozen undead shinigami appear around them courtesy of Giselle. Mayuri seems annoyed that she’s still alive and Shunsui tries to find common ground with the Sternritters since bringing down the Soul Palace is in neither of their best interests. NaNaNa rejects the offer and gets shot through the chest by Bazz-B just as Shunsui’s about to draw his swords. A reserved-looking Bazz-B explains that if the Seireitei gets destroyed then so will the Wandenreich, since the Wandenreich exists in its shadows, which doesn’t really explain why the Quincies have now lead two consecutive invasions on Soul Society, but let’s just go with it. Mayuri is understandably suspicous, and an unconcerned Bazz-B tells them that they’ll help with the gate as long as they can come to Soul Palace to help take down Yhwach. Shunsui is probably a healthy mixture of pleased and suspicious, but keeps a strong poker face at the revelation.

Kubo’s been on a roll ever since he directed his attention back at the Gotei 13, and these chapters were no exception.

Honestly I don’t really have much to say because I thought the chapters were great. Aizen’s return went exactly as expected, and the only surprising thing about the rogue Quincies was that they were revealed so early. The only real complaint I have is the continuing drama with the reiatsu gate. It seems like every other chapter it’s either good to go or completely broken and it’s getting to be kind of tiresome. I’m also not sure if Yhwach needs even more enemies against him right now, since the “good guys” already have plenty of heavy hitters and about a dozen allies waiting in the wings to make their dramatic entrances, while Yhwach basically only has Haschwalth and his elite Sternritters on his side since I’m not even going to count Uryu. But these are tiny complaints and I just hope Kubo keeps doing what he’s doing.

so this review is late once again, even though i read the chapter last week (meh)

so my thoughts on the chapter -> Aizen’s chair is made of some sturdy stuff. yep.

also, although Aizen easily gets on my nerves and i don’t particularly like him, he is the evil they need to fight Juha - so, good call Kyoraku, i got yo back on that. even if Rukia and the others completely disagree (i’m sorry, Rukia m(_ _)m)

the rest of the chapter was basically a demonstration of Aizen’s super OPness and his very resilient chair.

but at least he seems to be helping.

i am assuming that momo’s reaction will come in the next chapter. i really hope kubo doesn’t just think he can brush it off, along with the rest of the visoreds, bc he honestly could have just given her a panel next to shinji rather than giving one sentaro, insane, or soi fon who are basically irrelevant compared to other the people affected by aizen.

 anyway, as much as i want her to be pissed and spit in his face like the rest, i would be immensely proud if she showed him absolutely no interest or if she was the one to stick by kyoraku’s decision even though she can’t stand the sight of him bc it would really show how far she’s come after the shit he pulled with her. and if nothing else it’d be a slap in the face to aizen who proclaimed that he stabbed her as an act of kindness, so she wouldn’t have to live without him.  it sort of already happened in the fkt arc when she unexpectedly showed up, but she had still referred to him as captain which implied she still held some feeling for him. you can say aizen won’t care but he did show a hint of emotion when she appeared in fkt but for me i would be so satisfied if kubo showed that she didn’t give any fucks about him.

And if I’m right, it’s like everyone is focusing on Kyoraku. But, then I looked more precisely, and I saw Sentaro who was like if Kyoraku was just beside him :

But, where is Kyoraku ? He is not at their level, I think, he is higher... But, Sentaro... I mean, he is holding Ukitake after all... You see ? Imagin Kyoraku is just here... :(

Review Breakdown: Bleach Chapter 622 ブリーチ: Bringing down the Soul Palace (How Aizen Saved/Destroys the Seireitei). Is it a good plan?

On this week’s chapter of Bleach, Aizen makes his epic return by helping out the Seireitei after Yhwach sends out the black blobs following absorbing the Kamikake. Will the Shinigami trust Aizen with this? Found out in my spoilerific review of Chapter 622, “The Agony”.

Prior to last week’s chapter, the Shinigami are in shocked on a certain someone making a sudden return

And the King of Trolls has arrived...for the 4th time

Aizen, first off, want to congratulate Rukia for the promotion. Rukia questions Aizen why he’s out of the Muken, but then comes Shunsui. That’s when he prepare to say to the Seireitei why he’s out.

Shunsui answered why he let Aizen out of the Muken, and everyone is in shocked...and angry...and upset

To which Shunsui replied, “Reputation is on the line, time to fight fire with fire, and by fire, I mean antagonist against antagonist.”

I see the storm finally calmed itself down. Aizen wants to be free but Shunsui refused. 

Lots of Reasons: He’s too dangerous to be freed, allowed to unstrap his mouth, ankle, and eyes, and so on.

Is anyone gonna mention the black blobs heading towards both Shunsui and Aizen?

I’ll take that as a complime...run. Everyone run!!! He’s preparing to do a Hadou!!!

Aizen’s Hado 90 finally made a comeback for this arc

While that is going on, Byakuya steps in and a little late on the blame game

You wanna kick my ass? Wait till the ordeal is dealt with

Aizen finally wiped the black blobs out of existence and Urahara was that shocked, thinking that he’s becoming more stronger after fighting Ichigo. Say to the guy who sealed him away

Wow, even Renji is in shock. Also, I think Aizen now have a chair fetish? And Soifon is about to aim her bankai

Soifon prepares to launch her Jakuho Raikoben, but Aizen had another idea in mind. Cue Michael Bay Explosion in the background

Yeah, screw the gate. I should get the Soul Palace and shoot it down here.

And then it’s over!

Reaction/Thoughts: So what do I think about this week’s chapter of Bleach? I think it was good. It was nice to see a full chapter featuring Aizen taking control of the wheel. And we kinda know how the Seireitei would react if they see Aizen out of the Underground Prison. Aizen reactivating the Kurohitsugi, which we haven’t seen since his fight with Ichigo, haven’t changed a bit, this time with no incantations because the incantation results in the full version. Rukia being the first to see Aizen again was a nice touch to remind what Aizen did to her back in the Soul Society Arc, ripped the Hogyoku out of her. And of course, bringing down the Soul Palace, good idea or bad idea? Compare the pros and cons. 

Pro: Seireitei fights against Yhwach and the Stern Ritter

Con: Lot of crazy shit to throw down

And of course, is Aizen helping out for good or is this all part of his plans? And what happened to Ichigo and the Gang? I give Chapter 622...
