now, it is my turn to speak on this chapter

soooo we have less than 10 weeks before Bleach ends whiiiich meaaaans that we should have a lil more than we expected, BUT the end is still VERY CLOSE.

as for this chapter, i enjoyed it extremely! great job on this one, Kubo. it was nicely packed with different characters, drama, surprises, a few answers, and had tensions rising!

it seems that we’re finally getting the Aizen vs. Juha fight, which could be fucking amazing, but how would Ichigo, Uryuu, and the rest of the gang be of use in a match between two villains with powers beyond their imaginations???

ESPECIALLY WHEN ICHIGO KEEPS FUCKING BREAKING ZANGETSU????

ignoring that little mishap (i s2g if Ichigo falls back into ‘despair’ i will annihilate all within sight) we got a few good things that must be pointed out: 

first, we got the Papas showing up, although they could’ve split and met their sons separately in order to save time (and panels). i mean it didn’t take two of them to deliver that lil silver spearhead to Uryuu, ya know? and plus, their appearance was pretty anticlimactic because they haven’t actually done anything yet, so i hope they join the upcoming fight somehow.

it was nice to see Uryuu. he’s all healed up and on his way. i wonder just what kind of special properties this lil spearhead will have and why it’s of vital importance in this fight. is the silver of a Quincy Juha’s ultimate weakness??? i guess we’ll see.

FINALLY, that Ichigo/Renji moment. i’ll start off by saying that the only thing Renji’s monologue proved was that to him, his relationship with Rukia is extremely important, and he’s very thankful to Ichigo for helping him get it back - Renji thinks of Ichigo as a real bro and will do anything for him. this was simply one in the collection of moments between Ichigo and his nakama, and man, it was an absolutely beautiful moment. think about it - how long has Renji waited to say this to Ichigo?? this ain’t really Renji’s style, but that can all go to hell because Ichigo has become a close friend and ally, someone who he has sworn to protect until the end. someone practically as close to him as Rukia. someone who he trusts. and uuughhh, this whole scene between them just means so fucking much aaaaaahhhhhhhhh

besides, to make a ship canon, i thought that both characters in the ship had to clearly feel the same way about each other and to agree to being in a relationship with one another, or..... is that not how it works???

anywaaaay, this week’s chapter was great! and early! so doubly great!! please keep it up, Kubooooo

so, let’s start off with the good of the chapter, shall we?? (because there’s plenty to be salty about later)

the okay:

first, i greatly appreciated the rukihime reunion (i lowkey ship it real hard) so that was nice. then we have Haschwalth’s resolution, which was great to see even if his quick change of heart felt forced (rip potato-san). also, hip hip hoooraaaayy, Uryuu has survived and can now help the gang defeat Juha somehow!

oh! and Ichigo’s no longer super depressed and defeated, so that’s wonderful (but the how was.... ehhhh)

the middle ground:

the whole Tsukishima thing.

ok, so we all knew the fullbringers joined the fight against the Quincies a while back, and they briefly appeared (and I mean briefly) like 2 or 3 years ago on a page that included Ganju. now, after so long, it makes sense that they’ve finally shown up to help in the big fight (after being ignored for so long) BUT the one to help Ichigo overcome his ‘despair’ could’ve been literally anybody else (Isshin, Rukia, Renji, Chad, Ganju - lol -,  Ishida - although that woulda taken a lil while -, Grimmjow, or hell, even, Aizen). it could’ve been someone that has had a great influence on him since the beginning (or has fucked up his life since the beginning, at this point either would do) but here we have a Tsukishima and Ginjo, which, yes, they are helping, but they haven’t done anything prominent since they ‘joined’ the fight against the Quincy - they have been completely ignored - and suddenly, out of the blue, Kubo’s like ‘oh yeah, Tsukishima!’ and bam, here he is. and not only that, but Tsukishima’s powers are a bit different than what was originally stated in the fullbringer arc - they have changed to suit the needs of the current plot.... hm.

@owl-in-daylight wrote up a nice review explaining the saltiness we feel and i absolutely agree, so here’s the link to that. definitely worth the read.

where to start, my dudes, dudettes, and everyone else?

well, i’ll start with the simple lil things like WHY PUT ICHIGO THROUGH THIS FUCKIN ‘DESPAIR’ FOR A COUPLE CHAPTERS AND MAKE IT ALL PAINFUL AND SHIT IF ALL IT WAS GONNA TAKE TO MAKE HIM FEEL BETTER IN .03 SECONDS WAS TSUKISHIMA STABBING HIM AND HELPING ORIHIME FIX HIS ZANPAKUTO???????!!!?!??!?!! if this was the end game - a way to bring Tsukishima back into the mix and make him relevant again - then why make the ‘despair’ such a big deal spanning several chapters?? other things could’ve been covered in the pages and panels it took to show off Ichigo’s despair.... just saying.

also, about Tsukishima’s powers, check this post and this post, both by @ichuki-nee.

adding on to that, there were a few panels that could’ve probably been used better, to move the chapter along some more, especially if these are the last handful of Bleach chapters that we’ll ever get. the pacing feels the same, there’s not a real sense of rush or anything, Kubo may have crammed a lil more than usual into this chapter, but the pacing was as calm as ever. (could this be the sign of a sequel/spinoff Bleach ?!?! i want to believe)

now, moving along from that, where are the papas?? they need to make their appearance, and quick, we’re running out of chapters here.

ok so it’s my turn to say something else about this week’s chapter

first, FINALLY THE RIDICULOUSLY INDESTRUCTIBLE TITAN QUINCY THOR IS DEFEATED and by none other than Juha himself ha ha haaa

so that’s one more thing checked off the Bleach to-do list.

so i know Ichigo’s in despair and depressed and it’s painful to see him this way, but what really hit me this week was the memory of his mom fading into white..... it was bleached away........

and yes, who could forget our lil quincy son, Uryuu and his beautiful words. he must survive all of this shit, if he doesn’t there will be riots. HE CANNOT BE ONE OF JUHA’S SACRIFICES I SWEAR KUBO

and here’s one thing that really caught my attention - Juha told the reunited Ichigo crew that he would kill each of them during the happiest moments of their lives because i guess now he’s master of all of time and space or whatever, but damn, just think about how fucking intense and cruel these fights could be. for most of them, i feel like their happiest times have been really early in their lives, like for Ichigo it’s probably at some point in his childhood, while his mother was still alive............................... OK OK EDIT TIME: so it says FUTURE, which means either Juha can be defeated (he will be defeated it’s just a matter of how) because the Ichigo crew survives long enough to have a future or he simply hasn’t caused enough damage to mess up the current timeline they’re all in. either waaay, in a twisted way, i wanna see their happiest future moments at the cost of a tough fight  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

aaaaaaaaand they will obviously go and chase Juha through the magical portal of doom but they’ll help Ichigo first, and hopefully fix his mental, physical, and emotional states before moving on. 

ALSO, WHERE ARE THE PAPAS????

it’s true, i don’t think anything will be resolved in only 20 chapters. i’d say another 50 or so, minimum.

Bleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaach

Tbh this chapter felt like the draw phase during a Yugioh duel where Yugi finally drew the card that’ll turn the tables and all ya get is the title of the card before the chapter ends and you’re like !!!! IT CAN’T END THERE !!!! That’s how this chapter felt to me.

also, the only thing i could think of ever since i saw the title was 4kids dub yami yugi saying ‘HORN OF THE UNICORN’ but enough with the yugioh and more of the BLEACH.

ok so, still no papas which is a bit disappointing but it is being made up lil by lil through Ichigo’s transformation and Orihime’s skills which have continued to stay in the limelight~ overall this chapter felt like it was hyping up to a bigger climax, but a new kind of cero is cool, i suppose. i wanna see if Juha actually ends up being hurt from it or not... also, he did seem a bit surprised, so did he not ‘see’ it coming ??? ? oh ho ho h o this could be an interesting turn of events hmmmm

let’s see what Kubo gives us next week...

aight aight, it was an aight chapter

so Orihime really did get her moment to shine and it was absolutely wonderful! i’m really glad she finally got her lil moment of glory, she honestly deserves it. (took ya long enough Kubo, like what the hell man) 

and then, we got Uryuu seemingly in trouble, but he’s pulling through. i hope he gets help soon (*cough* where are the papas, i was promised papas, and they weren’t in this chapter why? *cough*) but i also wanna know exactly what Haschwalth has ‘seen’ - and is he still secretly good?? i still have a bit of hope.

AND FINALLY, my dear son, Ichigo... ya got yoself some horns, man. nice. although, i’m a bit disappointed that i wasn’t very impressed by this new transformation. i’m not saying it’s not cool or badass, because it definitely looks cool and badass, but i just wasn’t surprised?? because it was expected??? like, we all knew he was gonna go through another change soooo, yea.

but i am excited to see just how his powers will work now that he’s released his Quincy reiatsu. and Isshin and Ryuuken. and my 10th squad reunion (Kubo pls). and let’s not forget the Ichigo, Rukia, Orihime, Renji reunion!!!

FUCKING FINALLY

I know i’ve been hoping for Isshin’s return for literally the longest fucking time - i’ve asked multiple times in at least 9 reviews - but holy shit, my dream has finally come true and he even brought Ryuuken, amazing. like, ya don’t even know how ecstatic i am at the fact that a 10th squad reunion is now an attainable reality.

Since the last couple chapters have had Juha bein like, “Ichigo, I’m yo fatha” i forgot that the chapter title could also imply the real fathas. well, now that they’re here, we just gotta know where they are and who they plan on helping first, and will they split up or be a fatha tag team? i suppose we’ll find out next chapter.

AND ANOTHER REUNION IN THE HORIZON - the Rukia, Renji, Ichigo, and Orihime reunion (ah, who am i kidding, it’s the ichiruki reunion)!! 

and, just like Ichigo has done many times before - literally every arc - he’s just throwing punches without thinking much and he’s internally, and now, externally, freaking out because of the magnitude of Juha’s powers. And when Ichigo feels overwhelmed and lost and unsure of himself, Rukia comes in, reminds him he is the Shinigami Daikou Kurosaki Ichigo and kicks his ass right back into gear; then Ichigo gets his second wind and finally destroys the baddie. that’s how it goes. 

and that’s probably how it’ll happen, again. (notice: it has started to rain in Ichigo’s heart. Rukia’s the key to stop it, she’s always been.)

but this, then, renders Orihime kinda useless to the ongoing battle (which is very disappointing) but she will definitely be needed when everyone else gets their ass beat, so do your best Orihime! And Ishida too, he needs to kick ass and survive. Kubo pls, let him live.

finally, let us not forget our favorite duo of the moment, Hotsugaya™ and Byakuya! :D they feel so old and wise when they discuss Rukia and Renji’s bond with Ichigo... the friendship between these two is probably the best thing to come out of Bleach since the musicals. It’s refreshing.

tbh the best part of this chapter was, hands down, Rukia and Renji meeting Broshiro Hotsugaya™

can ya imagine it tho? if Toshiro made himself an alternate ego and to Rukia and Renji he was two different people? that would mean that he could change back and forth between his smol and tol self, but just imagine how hilarious it could be. Rukia and Renji hanging out with Broshiro Hotsugaya, but turning around and being intimidated by Toshiro Hitsugaya for hanging out with his supposed older brother, and Byakuya knows never says anything. yeyeyeee

anyway, last week i totally meant to write a short review on the chapter but fuck that, i was hella mad that after all of those crazy ass power-up transformations, three captains working together couldn’t beat the shit out of Gerard. like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK???? FUCKING HELL. yea, that review woulda been me just ranting like there was no tomorrow. (BY THE WAY, then WHO will be the TRUE HERO in this fight against Gerard??? who’s gonna come save 3 captains and 2 lieutenants by kicking Gerard’s gigantic spirit-y quincy ass??? i honestly thought that the three captain combo had a good chance to end the fight, but i was wrong soooo who will it be??? will it actually be the five of them now??? i mean, they do all have bankai, but they all fought Gerard before and got their asses handed to them so i think i’ve lost all faith in these gotei peeps. so will it be the ex-espadas?? the fullbringers (they were supposed to be sorta relevant in this arc, remember?)?? OR SOMEONE NEW?? KUUUUUUUUBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)

AND THIS CHAPTER.... let’s be real, it was all hype and no actual substance. it was basically a 16 page preview about what we’re about to see (for like months, honestly) inspired by star wars. i hope we get a better chapter next week, one that actually moves the story forward at least a little bit more. of course, bringing old characters back is usually appreciated (especially if they’re integral to the plot somehow). Broshiro Hotsugaya™ making dumb jokes and hanging with Byakuya is always appreciated. and other dorks, like Rukia and Renji, are as well BUT MAKE ‘EM DO SOMETHING ONEGAIII

tall Toshiro, whom we will now refer to as Hotsugaya (coined by @socialdegenerate last week), returned this chapter to give heart attacks and nosebleeds to fans worldwide thanks to his change in appearance and just, the sudden, spontaneous growth spurt that took everyone by surprise.

obviously, in typical Kubo fashion, we still don’t know how the fuck this happened or how the transformation works. the only explanation we got went a bit like this: ‘in order to be extra powerful my bankai needed to mature so i aged a bit’

???????????????

so can Hotsugaya just will himself to age??? did he think ‘ah, i need to get older now’ and he just grew up?? or did he have to train a lot to become older?? which, if he did, does that mean that a certain amount of training can lead to quicker aging in soul reapers?? or????? what?????

i basically threw my phone against the wall.

one good and exciting thing: Hotsugaya is finally twice the size of Hyourinmaru and could actually wear the zanpakuto at his waist (it only took 13 years, amazing) 

okokok so enough Hotsugaya, let’s talk about the others too (he’ll come back later tho)

so Gerard, aka annoying thor-like quincy seems to have finally finally reached his limit and at last, our three captains are working as a team to take him down (LIKE THEY SHOULDA DONE SINCE THE BEGINNING) 

if they don’t finish him imma be so fucking mad i swear, that foo needs to go, he’s severely overstayed his welcome (for like a year!) and is just so annoying and boring now. plus, it’s simply their time to *~*shine*~* and kick ass and overall be total badassess. so here’s a prayer to that.

also, i feel like there’s a 50% chance of Kubo leaving us hanging and just moving on to another one of the like 20 different fights that are happening right now without resolving this one completely. that would suck ass, but i wouldn’t be too surprised, honestly.

and one more thing: where is Matsumoto during her taichou’s transformation??? is she ok?? (i can’t remember) i wanna see her tease him. and Ichigo, too, i want to see Ichigo’s reaction at Hotsugaya - it’ll be priceless, i’m sure. OH, and ISSHIN. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
