#bleaching roots

I have black virgin roots and bleached ends (which i just bleach bathed to remove pink, it's pretty light), and I want to go white/platinum blonde, I think I need to bleach both parts of my hair but idk how to go about it?

Hello! Bleach your roots first, using a low vol peroxide until they’re light, wash out etc as usual, then bleach bath the ends. 

Don’t try and do them together as they have different processing times. 

Always use the lowest volume peroxide as possible.

Hi! :) I had that problem that my dye wasn't sticking to my roots and found out my roots are just too healthy. I don't want to bleach my roots every time, do you think just dying them blonde is damaging enough? Oh & happy new year! Hope your holidays were good! :)

Brilliant! I thought this might be the case, well done for finding out! 

Yes a box dye should be fine to help you abosrb the colour, but actually bleaching will be easier and far cheaper for you if you intend to just do your roots, as you can buy the 500g tubs and a liter of peroxide (just get 10 vol) and just mix up what you need instead of getting a whole box dye for just your roots. 

Howeeeeeeever, if you’d rather use box dyes, you can now get root kits and I think some brands have started doing ones that can be used as and when you like as it has a double pump that mixes the products gradually as you put them out rather than all at once.

Hey! I was wondering if you could tell me how to lift the black when I bleach. My hair roots that were natural are white obviously and the ends went a medium kind of brown. I'm not sure whether to try and lighten just the ends now or toner or what! X

Even if you don’t want to go white it covers a huge range of how to bleach and lighten your hair. __ 

You should always bleach your roots separately to the rest of your hair as they develop much more quickly due to the heat of your scalp and the fact that its virgin hair. 

Toners will only work on light orange or light yellow hair, so sounds like you need to lift a little more.

Tip for bleaching your roots!

If you bleach your roots once a month or so then you'll probably notice that despite how careful you are, its hard not to get overlap and do the occasional damage. 

Minimise the bleach damage by using a low volume peroxide (20 vol or lower) 

Do a bleach bath! If you've got a good brand of bleach, they are fantastic at lifting, and the heat from your head when doing your roots means your bleach will develop quickly. Instead of doing a scoop of bleach powder to two scoops of peroxide try this 

1 scoop powder, 1 scoop shampoo, 1 scoop peroxide. 

You should see the same amount of lift and minimise any damage!

If you can managed it start from the front to back the first time you do your roots then back to front the next time you do them. This way the front doesn't end up developing for the longest amount of time each session.

Hi. I have awfully dark roots and practically blonde ends. What's a tip for even bleaching?My roots are a good three inches long. I have relatively short hair myself

Hi Honey! Doing your roots is always easier when your hair is shorter, so thats good!

On your roots never use anything higher than a 20 vol, see if you can use a 10 as thats best and you’ll be at less risk of burning your scalp and getting itchy from the bleach.

Use a tinting brush (the ones with the pointy ends) start at your centre parting and then use the sectioning end to lift up the next layer. Do as little overlap as possible. 

Get a friend help you do the back if you can! I have a video on roots here, but its not the best video I’ve done at all! There are great youtube vids to help you out if you need it though.

Today's the day! Gonna bleach my roots for the second time, get rid of all remaining yellow, and then strip out the purple and go turquoise!

I'm so excited! I'm hoping my hair comes out fabulous. I know the turquoise will look way better with the plum bridesmaid dress than my purple hair does. My current hair clashes horribly with the dress.

Wish me luck errybody! I'm always extra nervous when I'm doing a second bleaching. Gotta be extra careful and take care of my poor hair!
