what was carmy's relationship with his siblings and his mother like growing up? (i'm really curious about your headcanons for this because it's something i have thought about so much!)

random questions for carmen

When it comes to his mom, I honestly have no idea yet. She's mentioned so scarcely, and we know so little about his relationship with his parents outside of the fact that they were unhappy. But considering the fact that he doesn't speak to her anymore (or at least has avoided her since coming back from New York), I'm guessing it might not be great. I think the fact that the breaking point for him was that Michael cut him out, instead of something to do with his parents, also says a lot. Carmen was the baby of the family, but maybe didn't have that close relationship with his parents? Considering he was always the odd one out as well, I'm thinking the same might have been true with his mother that might have been true with others: they always preferred Michael.

Anyways, the show does tell us a lot about his relationship with Mikey, but I think there's a lot still to be said about the heroic view that Carmy had of him. This shows to me, so obviously, when he says that he had absolutely no idea that Mikey was on drugs/addicted to anything, and everyone else kind of laughs in his face because it was so obvious. To Carmy, even when his relationship with Mikey was "ruined", his brother still could do no wrong in a lot of ways. There had to be a reason behind what he was doing, a good reason. Even by the end of season 1, he is still grappling with that.

And then Natalie! I love her, first of all. Second of all, my theory that his mother was not overly present/close with Carmy comes from the fact that Nicole seems to do a lot of mothering when it comes to him. I'm assuming this may have been the same for Mikey, considering she cosigned the loan for his business, and maybe handled financials to a degree? Anyways, she kind of seems to even out the chaos of the brothers, and I think was a bit of a reprieve from the intensity that Mikey seemed to have, as much as Carmy loved it.
