Haarp Media Guest Picks #7: Bevin Campbell (Blend Corp/Movement/Uncomfortable Beats)

Bevin Campbell is a busy guy involved in various areas of electronic and hip-hop music in Melbourne.

He is a member of the Blend Corp team, who have a radio show The Blend at local Melbourne community radio station PBS on Monday nights. He also is a crew member of the Movement crew (an audio-visual crew), and of Uncomfortable Beats.

1. Mark Pritchard – Duppies (Warp) MP has been in our top three producers for a good while now, but he's looking like taking the number one spot from our long time favourite – Luke Vibert. This tune is ridiculous!

2. Desto – Emptier Streets (Rwina Records) Heady emotive brilliance. Great video too :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwxxS-t_u6Y

3. Zomby – Pray For Me (4AD) Some very different trap sounds on his latest album. Hard to pick a track, mind you, there are 33! Perhaps 'Overdose' should have been listed here too, it's not all trap.

4. Kotkee - Good Night My Love (Kokeshi) Somebody say lighters out?!

5. ASC – Polemic (Samurai Red Seal) Aciiiiiiiid meets hard-hitting DnB, are you kidding me! No and it's brilliant :)

6. Stray – Ginseng Smash (Critical Presents: Modulations) Stray showing why he's one to watch in DnB. “Cookie-cut this shit and get the Gingerbread man."

7. Armour – Skylark (Tectonic) Okay, so I have been missing Vex'd! I had to mention a track from Tectonic, they are staying so very relevant and fresh. The 'Acre' track is brilliant on this release too.

8. Arctic – Know This Don (Coyote Records) UK Hawaiian pizza-lover now living in Melbourne and making mad grime. How good is grime these days!?

9. Run The Jewels – Banana Clipper (Fools Gold) Not often into the harder hip hop but El-P gets me every time. This album sees him teaming up with Killer Mike.

10. Kromester – Gods (Nebula) Yes, I still like dubstep :)

Wax Tailor Australian Shows (Melbourne/Sydney)

Finally after many years trying we've sorted getting Wax Tailor to Australia as part of his World Tour, albeit only to 3 shows here. Hopefully this is the first of many, with future tours to include other cities/states. Big thanks to Spoonbill and Shine On Festival for making it possible! Wax Tailor will be playing 3 shows:

A harmony of light, design, sustainability, and electronic soundscapes. Kubik Melbourne will illuminate Birrarung Marr for an unforgettable experience during its Southern Hemisphere premier season as part of Melbourne Music Week... Wax Tailor plays Tuesday the 22nd. Others playing during Kubik include Gaslamp Killer, DJ Krush and Daedelus. 

Shine on Festival near Beaufort (Pyrenees Ranges, Western Victoria) [website/facebook] 18-20 November 2011

A festival of music, arts, camping, dancing and more. A selection of sounds and culture from across the globe and across the country join together in the Australian countryside to celebrate the onset of summer! A weekend of music, arts and culture featuring three stages of entertainment, bands, djs, live electronica, installations, performance, markets and an array of strange and wonderful happenings. Wax plays on the 19th.

The Beresford Sydney 18 November 2011 Unfortunately the show with DJ Krush fell through, however Wax will be playing a show November 18 along with a few other acts!
