The image is of a lady - Twiggs. Colour tinting can be done in Photoshop quickly.
How do you achieve a blue tint? - Use ‘Blend If’ tools
• Adjustment layer
• Solid colour
• Pick out - blue
• Click OK
What has happened to the photo? It is underneath the blue layer.
Now change blend mode:
• Click - Colour on the drop-down menu.
However the colour is too blue, you only want the blue to apply to shadows.
• Colour Fill layer - click
• Adjustment layer
• Underlying layer - pull slider in from the right hand side to about 100. Blue is now only tinting shadows.
How to make it softer?
• ALT+ Click to split slider then move slider - 56/97 • Click Ok.
Blues now only apply to shadows. This is a quick way to add colour tint to an image. It needs to be subtle though. In the Layer box reduce opacity of the layer down to 40. Always use ‘I’ to turn on/ off layers.
Red tint to highlights?
• Solid colour RED/Pinkish colour
• Blending modes- change colour
• Opacity down to about 40
Only apply to highlights- how?
• Double click
• Move sliders away
• Split slider for feather effect: ALT+ Click
Green tint to mid-tones- how?
• Add solid colour- green
• Blending modes
• Opacity = 40
Mid-tones - how?
Move both sliders to the middle.
• Feather it - ALT+ Click
‘Blend If’ works on highlights, shadows, mid-tones and tints.
• Helps with colour management.
• Also helps with tones and gels.
I took this original photo from internet. I wanted to experiment with this photo using ‘Blend If’ tools . I have changed colours a bit. See below, it is the result. It looks like from cinematic poster - vampire lady.
What does ‘BLEND IF’ allow you to control?
Blend If allow you to control as you can choose how the layers interact with each other.
You can change the low, mid tones and highlights using colour management and opacity can be changed to allow the view to be very subtle.
See below for my screenshots outlining the Photoshop process.
